Sometimes my meals can last an hour. I know a lot of people test between 5 and 10 times a day. If I had to do that, I would be on meds and probably insulin. Testing stresses me more than anything. hugs Eunice

Guest guest
Lissi: Tee Hee! Look at it sideways -- it's a winking smiling face ;oD C Re: Re: new here/testing after meals Dear C, Eunice, and All, Being new to the list and finally having internalized the fact I have to change my eating habits forever, there are many details I'm not clear about. Many of my questions are being answered as I read the posts. I got the book for newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics that was recommended, filed some of the snack ideas, and finally understood why waiting too long between meals can be harmful, and learned so much more. Now I'll begin to ask questions in earnest, and eventually, to help, as well, as I improve enough to qualify for sharing suggestions that work for me. Here it is. Question 1. What is ;oD? I'm thankful for joining this list. Always with love, Lissi
Guest guest
Hey, Charlie! I'm so sorry to hear you've had such a hard time.. I am hoping you're seeing some results? Are you testing? On meds? A1C is actually an HBA1C - it's glycosated hemoglobin - it's a way to measure the average blood glucose over about a 12 week period. It's a pretty standard diabetic test. Usually done every three months at first and then, later, a couple times a year. 295 is quite high, and yes, out of control. Hope that helps. This is a wonderful list. Feel free to ask questions! Best of luck! C RE: Re: new here/testing after meals Hi my name is Charlie and I an also new only abut four months been told I have diabetes . Guest guest
Dear Janet, Thanks to you, my next question will really be about diabetes. We don't have to tell all in these groups, but I admit I'm a braille reader with a talking computer so I heard semicolon oD, but I know the shapes of those characters and can picture the open mouthed smiling face. I've passed the link on to several other braille and voice users. Many of them will find it as entertaining as I did. I've added the link to my favorites until I learn all the combinations for faces and the abbreviations. This was my fun for today, my 12th day of eating better, a long run of consecutive good days for me. Always with love, Lissi Re: Re: new here/testing after meals In a message dated 7/26/2006 6:49:14 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Charlie, I'm sorry things are not going so well right now, but welcome to the group. Do they have you going to the Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville? Both of my paternal grandparents were treated there for diabetes & my grandmother for heart problems. They received excellent care. I have family in Wartrace & Shelbyville. > Might depend on the doc or educator - my naturopath is the one that has me > testing as I've noted - when I was first diagnosed, my A1C was 8.9. Guest guest
Thanks Suans, I think thats watt my doctor did wen I told him I thought I had diabetes and he ran a blood work and told me that the avager was 190 for the last couple of week. I went to my daughter place in DE and wound up with an enfection in my right foot and it blew up like a bloon and went to emergency and they ran some test and put me right in the hospital in DE the state . And when the release me the next week they put a PICC in my right arm . That's a IV witch can stay in my arm up to a year . and it start in my arm , about two inches up from my elbow and goes up and over my chest and down next to my hart. and the length is 45 , but I don't know if is inches or meters. Thats so I can give myself IV buy myself and I have a nurse that was comeing out twice a day , but know only once a week . They say the insurance won't pay for it. Getting back to my foot they took out one of my bones out of my foot and tested it to see how far the enfection went in my foot. One doctor say's one thing and another doctor say something else. But my doctor say that the bone they took out was soft , meaning the enfection was in the bone. And I got two enfection . One was striph and I can't remember what the other one was but it's had to get ride of it . It can stay dormint in my foot and flar up anyting. And there still a chance I still can loos my right foot. I'm sorry but I just forgot watt I wanted to ask you. Your truly Charlie In diabetes , " Clayton " wrote: > > Hey, Charlie! Guest guest
Me too. the more I test and find out what I can and can't eat the safer I feel. That was how it was when I first got leukemia (chronic not gonna die from it!) and neutropenia (could die in 24 hrs if neutrophils in white blood count go too far down to fight an infection) - I had 2-3 CBCs at the local hospital a week! Knowing I was ok, let me find a comfort zone. Now I know how I feel and when to get them around what the hematologist says. I get the 2/mo she asks me too, but sometimes I feel so good and am busy so I forget. Other times I feel awful and just need to know everything is ok. Also, I am finding that on some days I don't care what my BS# is - I am just plain hungry and I'm going to eat so there. Other days I am not hungry so I don't eat AS MUCH but I eat something. I test when waking up. The if I am eating something new during the day I'll test 2 hrs AFTER eating to see if it is a safe food for me but it has to be done a few times since just once doesn't really give me the info because of how I might be feeling, if I've exercized or not, etc. Some days I'll take a BS before a meal to see what it is I can eat carb wise and then not bother afterwards because I'll have eaten a meal I know is safe for me. So many different ways to do it but I learned by first thing in the a.m. before eating, then before a meal and after a meal to see what was a good meal for me. Then before I went to bed. After a while I found which meals were good and didn't have to test before or after and just started testing new foods and new combinations. It is a learning process. Makes me nuts some days, other days motivates me to keep calories low and keep on loosing weight :-) JUDITH > I test six to eight times a day - makes me be aware of what's going into my > mouth! ;oD For me, seeing good numbers is motivating! -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
