Guest guest
I NEVER want to of through a day like that again.. We left at 8 a.m, and as we drove it got hotter and hotter, and the caddy does not have A/C. So by the time we got to the police station to get Bev's things it was sweltering and I was very dehydrated, even though we had bought and were drinking water. So at the station I drank about 4 bottles of water (poor Robbin kept having to go back and refill my bottle) So, we got her stuff and you wouldn't want to know, when we got my father's effects after his passing, I had to wash his blood off of his watch. That really scarred me emotionally. So, what was on HER watch? You got it. Blood. What IS it with watches and blood??? This time though, Rob took over and HE cleaned it for me. Thank you Rob.. So we get it the house and, well, while there IS some furniture worth salvaging, most of it is not, and they were borderline hoarders and both smoked like fiends, so the smell is overwhelming. Then her friend JJ came over, and gave me both my other sisters AND my mom's ashes. I still have to retrieve Bev's. We did have one hysterical moment, Rob was going through Bev's room (looking for papers) and he picked up a box. It started humming! He brought it to me and said "this is above and beyond the call of duty" and handed it to me, still humming. So I look, it is a HUGE pink...well...sex toy!!!!! I am still laughing about that!!! The house is, as I thought, small, 2 Br, nice little yard and screened-in Florida room. But the inside!!!! OMGIH!!!!! (that's Oh My G-d In Heaven) Stink much??? And they apparently let the dogs go wherever they wanted, and of course Mom's incontinence...well, the bed and all the furniture in her room (well what isn't wood) O-U-T IT GOES!! She pissed all over ENERYTHING!! There are STACKS of magazines, catalogues, newspapers...the beds, well, Mom's is total piss and Bev's is buried under piles of clothes. Literally. She was sleeping on the couch because she couldn't GET on the bed! There are I think about 4 TV's, one is pretty big and IS HD. Robbin is thrilled *grin*. No PC, though you can tell were there WAS one. Gotta ask JJ about that. Anyone want an EXTENSIVE collection of movies...on VCR? Thankfully JJ had cleaned out the fridge and the two outside freezers...And the last thing, and maybe the only real saving grace, is that her art collection is still there, and a nice one it is. There is an original Degas, for one, and a (Huge and really, really ugly), she used to have a Picasso, not sure if it is still there, and she has one by that artist, I can't remember his name, went to the Cook Islands and became enamored of them and painted wonderful paintings there. The art alone will pay for Robbin's college handily. The house will take some time before it is ready for the market. There is a car, paid for (inherited from my other sister), a 1995 Volvo. Only 55 k miles lol...but it needs a new alternator and some new wires, then it will be road-ready. I will reinstate my license and will have wheels! So then we drove home, it didn't get under 90* till we were almost here. I still feel hot, even though I have had a cool shower and nave the a/c turned a bit lower then usual. I also had to deal with JJ's emotions, and with my own...and believe me there were plenty of them to go around. *sigh* I am tired now. Love to all of you. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~

The house is, as I thought, small, 2 Br, nice little yard and screened-in Florida room. But the inside!!!! OMGIH!!!!! (that's Oh My G-d In Heaven) Stink much??? And they apparently let the dogs go wherever they wanted, and of course Mom's incontinence. ..well, the bed and all the furniture in her room (well what isn't wood) O-U-T IT G OES!! She pissed all over ENERYTHING!! There are STACKS of magazines, catalogues, newspapers.. .the beds, well, Mom's is total piss and Bev's is buried under piles of clothes. Guest guest
Right now we are focussing on the move, then I will apply myself once again to the task of their "stuff". Rob will go down once we've moved and get a u-haul and bring back all of the viable ~ and valuable ~ "stuff" for the new place. Then to figure out what to do with the rest...*sigh* He suggests I hang on to the paintings, keep them on the walls as "insurance" for the future. I would, except I'd need insurance for THEM, and I certainly cannot afford the insurance for what might be several hundred thousand $ of artwork...I'd rather sell it and put the $ to good use, assuring Robbin's future, and not having to worry about someone breaking in and stealing it all (like Rob, maybe? Guest guest
Well we already have the keys and Rob has the beds set up and some furniture from his mom an sis. We'll move most of our stuff from here over the next few days, have to be moved in by Wed since that is when they come to install the directv box. At this time there is no stove/fridge, he promised to have them in by Tuesday, and Rob's sis has offered a hotplate and apartment fridge just in case, the Ramp won't be built till next week or so but he will do it soon. I am doing ok. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ -- Re: RE: today Whoa, Akiba! Guest guest
that is why I said call the Atlanta Museum - they will take custody and will drool - besides conserving them - they will all be together - away from Rob - they will be straight with you - also History Detectives will help too To: MSersLife Sent: Sun, August 1, 2010 9:45:51 PMSubject: Re: RE: today Right now we are focussing on the move, then I will apply myself once again to the task of their "stuff". Rob will go down once we've moved and get a u-haul and bring back all of the viable ~ and valuable ~ "stuff" for the new place. Then to figure out what to do with the rest...*sigh* He suggests I hang on to the paintings, keep them on the walls as "insurance" for the future. I would, except I'd need insurance for THEM, and I certainly cannot afford the insurance for what might be several hundred thousand $ of artwork...I' d rather sell it and put the $ to good use, assuring Robbin's future, and not having to worry about someone breaking in and stealing it all (like Rob, maybe? Since he'd be the only one who KNEW there was all that $$ on the walls?) ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ -- Re: RE: today Whoa, Akiba! Guest guest
Hey Akiba,If they have A LOT of valuables, in addition to the paintings,I'd be tempted to have a person come in that sells contentsof homes--as in estate sales. That or have an appraiser lookat the paintings and give you a price on them, then ask themfor the best place to sell them.Just some thoughts...love to you during this time, as always, Kate today> > > > > > > > > > I NEVER want to of through a day like that again..
