Guest guest
I also like these two supplements. Here is some published data on both carnitine and carnosine for those interested in learning more. Alyssa A recent abstract was published stating that carnosine may be helpful in Alzheimer's disease, which I found interesting, see below: PLoS One. 2011 Mar 15;6(3):e17971.Effects of dietary supplementation of carnosine on mitochondrial dysfunction, amyloid pathology, and cognitive deficits in 3xTg-AD mice.Corona C, Frazzini V, Silvestri E, Lattanzio R, La Sorda R, Piantelli M, Canzoniero LM, Ciavardelli D, Rizzarelli E, Sensi SL.SourceMolecular Neurology Unit, Center of Excellence on Aging (Ce.S.I.), University G. d'Annunzio, Chieti-Pescara, Italy.AbstractBACKGROUND: The pathogenic road map leading to Alzheimer's disease (AD) is still not completely understood; however, a large body of studies in the last few years supports the idea that beside the classic hallmarks of the disease, namely the accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) and neurofibrillary tangles, other factors significantly contribute to the initiation and the progression of the disease. Among them, mitochondria failure, an unbalanced neuronal redox state, and the dyshomeostasis of endogenous metals like copper, iron, and zinc have all been reported to play an important role in exacerbating AD pathology. Given these factors, the endogenous peptide carnosine may be potentially beneficial in the treatment of AD because of its free-radical scavenger and metal chelating properties.METHODOLOGY: In this study, we explored the effect of L-carnosine supplementation in the 3xTg-AD mouse, an animal model of AD that shows both Aβ- and tau-dependent pathology.PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We found that carnosine supplementation in 3xTg-AD mice promotes a strong reduction in the hippocampal intraneuronal accumulation of Aβ and completely rescues AD and aging-related mitochondrial dysfunctions. No effects were found on tau pathology and we only observed a trend toward the amelioration of cognitive deficits.CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: Our data indicate that carnosine can be part of a combined therapeutic approach for the treatment of AD.PMID: 21423579From: Alberta To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, October 4, 2011 8:56 AMSubject: Re: L carnosine and L carnotine I love carnitine and carnosine! No "wows" to report, but my son plays sports and work-outs can be tough so I can't say for sure how he would do without it. I won't take that chance. We're finishing up our first month of carnosine. This has been amazing for him! Language has been our biggest hurdle. This has helped sooooo much. His word usage has improved considerably and he's holding on to vocabulary much better than before. language processing much improved. My sosn's focus has way improved but I can't say for certain that it can be attributed to the carnosine or the simple fact that it's just him and I during the day (we home school) dad goes to work, brother goes to school - so I'm sure that is a major factor. My sister also started my nephew on carnosine shortly after I started it with my son. She reports much better eye contact and improvement in expressive language. Guest guest
Now brand. l-carnosine. 500mg/ twice a day. (He's 9yrs/80lbs.) Love the stuff. there is mag stearate and stearic acid just so you know. Sometimes you've gotta pick your poison <sigh>. Because it's probably a "keeper" for a good while, I may shop around for something without the additives. Guest guest
I've also read that Carnosine will help zinc get into the ulcers caused by h. pylori to help them heal. Does it help transport it better I assume? jenib > > I love carnitine and carnosine!
