Guest guest
Robbin is the only kid I have ever heard of who "self-punishes". If he does something wrong, which is very rare, he will punish himself. Just now he did something "wrong", which could have damaged his bike but thankfully did not. When I went past his PC just now, he wasn't there. Where are you? He was in his closet! He self-punishes! It is SO cute there are no words....I told him that was not necessary...damn but he is just such an awesome kid! ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ Pragmatic Visionary http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php
Guest guest
I've never heard of this before, Akiba. I guess he must just feel real bad about things, and takes matters into his own hands. I always find that when one of my kids makes a mistake, I try to not criticize them, as I know when I make a mistake, I beat myself up enough if I had been beaten up by 20 people....if that makes any sense...?He is an awesome kid!love to you both, KateSubject: RobbinTo: mserslife Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011, 9:13 PM Robbin is the only kid I have ever heard of who "self-punishes". Guest guest
Ok, I am calmer. Sometimes as a parent one has to remember to *breathe*. I asked him if his "need" to self-punish stemmed from something that might have happened when he was at Kathy's. Well, it was and it wasn't. It was, because it happened while he was there, and it wasn't because it came from his SCHOOL, not from Rob or Kathy. Apparently they would put him in a "time-out" room, which was basically a padded cell. When he did or said something perceived as "wrong", they would put him in there. Granted, for only 5-10 mins at a time, but apparently long enough that it left the impression that he needed to self-punish. They would make it seem like he had the choice whether to go in to not, but it really wasn't a choice, because it was the room or actual punishment (docking privileges type of thing, not spanking, they can't do that). I asked him what part of his time there was spent in the room, he said about 25-30% of it...(remember...*breathe*...). Hopefully that is an exaggeration. I hugged him and told him he does not need to EVER self-punish. EVER. As was brought up offlist, self-punishment can lead to things like cutting, and I NEVER want him to go there. EVER. ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ Pragmatic Visionary http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- RobbinTo: mserslife Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011, 9:13 PM Robbin is the only kid I have ever heard of who "self-punishes". Guest guest
Hi Akiba,..I am sorry this happened to Robbin. Ya know when I read this my first thought was "someone" used the closet to punish him, and expected maybe Rob or one of his GF's, but for a SCHOOL to do that is unacceptable as well. Is there anything you can do to lodge a complaint so it doesn't happen to anyone else? Kids are so trusting and vulnerable. I just found out that my ex-DIL threatened my granddaughters that she would call the police on THEM if they didn't tell her everything that went on at their dad's place. It just broke my heart that they were subjected to that, and Robbins experience too. Hugs to you and him, and yes breathe! Guest guest
Mercy on us, " time out " is one thing, " solitary confinement " something else entirely! Sounds like something used for the convenience of the teachers rather than anything of benefit to the kids! Even if you can't pursue anything legal, I'd write letters to Children's Services, any parents' groups, etc, you can find, and be sure people know this is happening - how many kids like Robbin got locked up and never told their parents? Meanwhile, make sure he understands that CORRECTION (not punishment!) is a parent's job, and the job of Robbins everywhere is to do kid stuff, some of it dumb (after all, if not for dumb kid stuff, what would we all have for good memories and funny stories when we're " old " ?) in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return... I questioned Rob, he said they called him all the tie with things Robbin did (they were supposed to call me too but they did not) and he had no clue, I asked him when he toured the facility did he see the "time-out" room, he said he did, it was a regular play room.

I dont know your rights as a parent but go until the end.
