Guest guest
Hi everyone, Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Wanted to know if parents could share how their experience was with different anti-allergy meds/natural alternatives for seasonal allergies. I am particularly interested in singulair, allegra and claritin. My son has a lot of stimming going on with brain fog and some other issues and I have been thinking of gut dysbiosis but then I noticed that he has itching on and off and has red ears and cheeks when he comes home from school. He is off the phenols and whatever little phenols he gets is with no phenol so I am sure that the red ears and itchy skin with a little sniffle is related to allergies. While I am treating his dysbiosis, I don't want to ignore the allergies. Please share what has worked for your children and what caused more problems. Guest guest
Thanks is for posting! We are having the same problems and I think that my son's gut gets worse during this and the summer season too bc of allergies. I talked to Dr. W about this and he said it is hard to treat the gut when they have these type of allergies. He is just recommending Transfer Factor to help build the immune system. We also just started LDN which he recommended too. Would love to hear about people's experiences with Claritin etc. To: mb12valtrex Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 11:18 PM Subject: Allergy meds/supps ideas Hi everyone, Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing what u have learnt . I have never explored transfer factor so will need to read up on that. I did'nt realize LDN helps with allergies other tha N foods also. Good idea. I will be talking to my dan tomorrow and will ask him about LDN. I also feel that my son is going thru the same phase he went thru last year around this time. is > > Thanks is for posting! Guest guest
I am still waiting for other parents to make suggestions but I spoke to my dan today and he suggested using claritin, clarinex and zyrtec. He advised against singulair. A lot of parents report negative reaction to singulair but then a lot of kids are just doing amazing on it. I request everyone who has a child with seasonal allergies to share their experience with the group both in terms of symptoms and meds/supps that worked. Guest guest
I'm not sure where everyone is located, but my allergy Dr told me earlier this week, that this has been the worst allergy season in 14 years. I don't know if that's just for the Dallas area, or not. I had horrible environmental allergies for over 30 years of my life. I had to take daily allergy meds, because i was allergic to everything. Pollen was bad, but sitting in a classroom with someone that had a cat or dog, would make me sick. I finally decided to do allergy shots. I was allergic to practically everything on the panel when we started. Now, I haven't taken allergy meds in over two years, and I live in the woods, with indoor cats and dogs . My son has environmental allergies too, but shots are feasible for him. He has also been a mes the past couple of weeks. I tried giving Claritin at night, but it makes him tired, and e falls asleep at school the next day. Benedryl wires him, and the homeopathic stuff doesn't work for him at all. :-/ > > > > Thanks is for posting! > > > > > > ________________________________ > > From: alexis_d3378 <alexis_d3378@> > > To: mb12valtrex > > Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 11:18 PM > > Subject: Allergy meds/supps ideas > > > > > >  > > Hi everyone, > > > > Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Guest guest
Yeah, im cursing the pollen right now too. Kids claritin has been working sort of ok-ish here. I started quercetin. This is actually our first year for seasonal allergies. Yeah, im seeing brain fog kind of regressions here. Phenol issues will get worse with seasonal allergies bc histidine gets depleted with allergies. Hi everyone, Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Guest guest
Ditto on your docs cautions. We've had very good luck with Astragalus. This year we are also using BHI Heel Allergy for our son who gets impossibly foggy and congested which we bought locally but you can get on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps & field-keywords=BHI\ +Heel+Allergy Key for us was getting it in place before the allergies really got going which was about 2 weeks ago. IMO you could put the homeopathic in place, you might still have a rough time at this late date though hopefully not. Astragalus might be the key to reducing inflammation without getting that drugged out feeling however everyone is different of course. If your symptoms are primarily fog and congestion this might work, if they are gut you might see anxiety or other symptoms also. Benadryl, theanine and 5HTP help our anxiety daughter get through the night sleep-wise during high allergy season but benadryl agitates my son with ASD. > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > > From: alexis_d3378 <alexis_d3378@> > > > To: mb12valtrex > > > Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 11:18 PM > > > Subject: Allergy meds/supps ideas > > > > > > > > >  > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Guest guest
Up your probiotics, that will help the immune system. Also you may want to use honey from your region, farmers usually have it for sale at farmers markets, maybe health food stores too. A tsp twice a day. Avoid giving to children under 2 yrs old. Guest guest
Although I am looking for other options, I am currently using Oxymetazoline nasal spray 2.5%. The product you get in the US is 5% minimum which is adult dose (I have used that too when I am out of 2.5% but only in one nostril instead of both) I buy it from Sweden (have friends there who bring once a year). I am open for homeopathic remedy too but just didn't find any that works.Noel Hi everyone, Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Guest guest
Hi Mardella,I found some local honey....was it 2 teaspoons per day? Is there any reason why I couldnt put it on their sunflower butter sandwiches?is, we started TF and I am not sure about it yet (we are using a sensitive version too). I am going to write our Dr. to see if it can cause die off because my kids seem a little more hyper than usual...didnt sleep very soundly last night but did sleep in...nothing too terrible but not sure there is a sensitivity reaction....their stools though are not looking the way they normally do when they dont tolerate something...we will see!cheers,meganp.s. i heard that locally our mold situation is bad this year because of the warm weather (started 2 months earlier that usual)....will go until Sept/oct...just about the time last year and the year before that my son seemed calmer and more focused.... Guest guest
Hi Mardella We have seasonal allergy as well - and we do flovent, albuteral as needed, zyrtec, and sometimes steroid for the sinuses. This year my son caught a flu at school that was an 8 day fever. At my wits end, and in desperation - I started to megadose him with vitamin C. I alternated between lypo-spheric vitamin C and ascorbic acid - every 2-3 hours totally 5-6 grams a day. This knocked out the flu and also dropped the nasal congestion so much that presently he is only on flovent (I've dropped zyrtec as an experiment) and he is fine. I am continuing - dosing him around 3-4 grams of vitamin C a day - lypospheric before school and bed (1 gram each time) and ascorbic acid mid-day (after school) 250 mg every 15-30 minutes for a couple of hours. This has kept his congestion down so much that I am not giving zyrtec. I am not in love with the lypospheric C because it is sodium ascorbate and so has sodium and may not be good for long term. I will give it another week or 2 to find another source - or possibly just go to just ascorbic acid and see how that goes. Good luck. The past 2 years he has had to be on flovent, zyrtec, and nasal steroids - so this year so far being on just flovent is HUGE.
Guest guest
Thanks everyone for suggestions! Will look for local honey and in the meantime will continue claritin as havn't seen any crazy side effects with it. I had discontinued vitamin C several months ago as couldn't rule out if it was causing behaviors but restarted again and so far seems to be helping a bit. I am using tapioca derived one by integrative therapeutics as out naturopath told us that most of the time people have issues with vitamin c because of its origin from corn. is > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > Allergy season is here and a lot of kids are having issues. Guest guest
Hi Grace, I checked the ingredients of Sabadil and it contains lactose and magnesium stearate. My son is on a strict casein free diet as he has folate antibodies. Is your child on casein free diet also and he tolerates it fine? I am always interested in homeopathic meds and it seemed like a really good idea but then the ingredients turned me off.
