Hi to the group

As they I have a question to get comments from everyone. What are your

RSI protocols like for those services who have them? Namely the big

question is do yours require there to be 2 paramedics present and or say can

the

skill be done with 1 medic and a intermediate?

Thanks Dawn

Were I work at we have two types of crews: EMT and Paramedic; Paramedic and

Paramedic. We are not required to have two Paramedics to perform RSI,

though it is nice to have two since your EMT's are not allowed to push

drugs. They can however perform BLS airway management while you push your

drugs. You will have to have all your equipment out and ready to go prior

to administration of medication. We have pretty much your standard RSI

Protocol so nothing fancy about it. If your service is just starting to

look at RSI I would recommend an airway management class atleast once a

year, prefer twice a year, this will help with your ratio of success when

you RSI a patient.
