Guest guest
There are some very serious side effects that could even cause death if your immune system is low and you take Valtrex. My son had high temperature(fever) Questions 1.- Why is that ? 2.- What happens in the body of my son? 3.- Could I continue treatment with a lower dose? 4.- Should I change the antiviral treatment? 5.- Someone has used a product called ENHANSA? There have been no studies on people taking it with a compromised immune system, says so in the insert. That doesn't mean there isn't a serious side effect, it means that whoever told you there was never read the insert. There have been instances of a blood clotting disorder in HIV/AIDS patients because they take such high doses. They do Rx it for people with immune problems, they just aren't aware of how it's going to react with a patient so it's up to the doctor to care for the patient and keep an eye out. This is how it is with many drugs, both good and bad. Drugs are prescribed off-label regularly. Valtrex is actually quite safe. One of the safest things we do in biomed. But some do have negative reactions, just like anything. That's not to say you should never be concerned. You should be as concerned as you feel you need to be, I'm not trying to poo-poo that. I'm just trying to put it in some kind of perspective for you. You might want to click the antiviral therapy 101 link above for more info. My son had high temperature(fever) Questions 1.- Why is that ?It's called die off. Typical die off behavior can consist of: fever, rash, hyperactivity, aggression, whininess, moodiness, stimming increase, anxiety increase and I can't think of any more off the top of my head. 2.- What happens in the body of my son?Antivirals shift the immune system from Th1 to Th1 cytokines, they lower adenosine levels and they inhibit the replication of herpes viruses. So this is why die off happens. It's a big shift in the immune system. Making this shift requires an adjustment of the body and it's not so comfortable. This typically lasts about 2 weeks but I've known of some people dealing with it about 2 months. Die off varies from person to person. My son's die off was very mild although you wouldn't know it when you saw me. He was very hyper, whiny and he had a fever. He was slightly aggressive. But being anxious, whiny and aggressive is more likely to be from the fact that there's a fever and they don't feel good. Give motrin, it helps. 3.- Could I continue treatment with a lower dose?I'm not a doctor so you should discuss this with your practitioner but in my experience, no, you should probably stay on the same dose and wait out the die off before you make any decisions. 4.- Should I change the antiviral treatment? It doesn't sound like you've been on it long enough to know that answer. 5.- Someone has used a product called ENHANSA?Plenty on this list have, I have not. I gave mine away. Thank
