Guest guest
He had an ear infection 3 weeks ago that we had to use Augmentin on. His behaviors (the mood fluctuations and random meltdowns) were like they have been before, during and after the medication. But they seem to be happening with more frequency since the ear infection. As soon as he got off the augmentin, his cold symptoms almost immediately reappeared and he complained that his ear hurt if someone touched him on it or sometimes when he blew his nose, so I'm not sure if the bacteria is still sticking around. I hate putting him on that crap b/c he seems to regress and his yeast goes skyrocket. I've been puming high doses of probiotics in him for a while now. How do I know if it's bacteria and how do I get rid of it if an antibiotic doesn't touch it... Just curious if any of you deal with emotional defiance that seems to come out of nowhere at times. one day I can tell my 8 y.o son "no" to a request and he handles it fine, another day same request, same no and he flips out. Actually the flip out gradually shows itself, he whines about the no I gave him, I try to explain, he gets gruff voice and says "I want...." I again explain and then with gruff voice and kicking or hitting he says "YES!, i want..." and it builds up to creshendo with screaming at the top of his lungs (a scream that one would do when you've had all you can take and you scream to get it all out kinda scream- the scream you do in your pillow b/c it's so loud) with tears and kicking and more random top of lungs screaming etc... like he's gone balistic. That lasts about 10-15 mins then he angrily chills (if I put him in time out during any of the building up to the meltdown, he will bypass the slow build and go straight to insanity- which sometimes I push just to get it over with). Then once he's chilled out I can say are you ok now and he always says "yes, mom I feel better now". I've always found it interesting that he uses those words... I FEEL better now. Typically my son is pretty chill and is happy to participate (for the most part when he's not scripting) in his regular education 2nd grade classroom. He's what most people would call high functioning Autism. He can communicate about as well as a 3 year old so he can definantly get his wants and needs met and comment on random stuff within his life and has insight into things, so this behavior is not what I am used to and I'm at a loss of what to do. It's even harder b/c I am a psychologist and I've exhausted my bag of tricks. NOTHING I am doing is able to stop the train from leaving the station once it's started. As I continue this journey I see now why people used to think our kids were schizophrenic or bipolar in years past. I just wonder if anyone has had experiences with parasites or viral issues etc that have given the same results of insane behavior. Guest guest
If his ear still hurts then he probably still has an ear infection. But that's probably not the bacteria that's causing the problem (although i'm sure it's not helping). It's probably more like clostridia or klebsiella. If the abx aren't doing anything, you might try Uva Ursi. 2 Weeks on 2 weeks off. Always remember to take 2 weeks off - it's toxic long term. I usually did that till the bottle was gone taking 1 cap/day. It probably won't do anything for the ear infection so don't rely on it for that. ~Cheryl Sent from my EVO. Guest guest
did you check if this might be external ear-infection and not middle ear-infection. my son was treated for middle ear infection almost every month, until i got an otoscope, and when he was hurting I checked. There was nothing wrong there but he had external ear-infection and that is very painful and oral antibiotic doesn't do anything for it. I got a doctor listen to me and realized he was treated for the wrong thing for a very long time. he got drops and it resolved. Check the ingredients of the drops as well because some has ingredients you do not want your kid to be exposed to if he does have external infection vitamin shop has drops that helps to heal and reduce pain as well. Hope this is some help.Tunde He had an ear infection 3 weeks ago that we had to use Augmentin on. Guest guest
Hi everyone, We also have this problem with outer ear infection Tunde. My son's ear canals are very narrow, and it was difficult for our MD to see (with all the screaming and kicking) so we always treated for middle ear infection. Now I use my husband's Cipro eardrops (even though I hate Cipro) on him and it works every time. Tried a natural one , but it didn't work very well for him. He can get a little crazy and aggressive when he needs them, especially with sounds, but also unexpectedly. Mine's nonverbal so if he's going crazy I just put them in and usually it's better. Sometimes I'm not sure it's not just muffling the noise, but whatever--it works. Also, Becky, is it possible that he's reacting to something foodwise or otherwise that might be causing his ears to fill up. I still use antihistimes on my son, and sometimes a decongestant. We're lucky --neither of these drive him crazy. Maybe he still has fluid in there even if it's not infected, and it's making him dizzy and aggravated, or if there's pressure and " popping " it might be driving him nuts. Or maybe your MD would prescribe some Tobradex drops to try, in case it's outer ear. They're alot cheaper than the Cipro and they work too. Plus you can use them in eyes or ears, so I just keep them in my fridge for whenever. I also use " calming oils " on his feet like chamomille and it calms him in about 5 minutes. Mix with a carrier oil, like olive, it's cheaper. Guest guest
There are such abroad range of antibiotics. Sniffling usually goes away for my son with either flagyl or tindamax. I think it is from sinus p arasites. > >  > >Just curious if any of you deal with emotional defiance that seems to come out of nowhere at times. one day I can tell my 8 y.o son " no " to a request and he handles it fine, another day same request, same no and he flips out. Actually the flip out gradually shows itself, he whines about the no I gave him, I try to explain, he gets gruff voice and says " I want.... Guest guest
Caryn,Has your kiddo been taking an antifungal like Nizoral or Diflucan to counteract the negative effects of the antibiotic? Please forgive me if this was addressed already. I’ve kind of been out of the loop for a while. I’m on the final approach to finishing my book about ’s recovery.Best,Marcia
