Guest guest
My recommendation is to ask your general practitioner, your regular MD, to suggest some names of psychologists in your area. He or she could probably give you some names by phone. If you explain the specifics, that you are most interested in finding a therapist who is familiar with borderline personality disorder and treating the adult child survivors of a borderline pd mother, your GP may even be able to name a couple of those specialists. You'll still need to be a good consumer and " shop " for your therapist, which means interviewing candidates to get at least an impression of whether you feel an individual therapist may be a good " fit " for you. Before you arrange for an in-person interview, you can ask the psychologist on the phone whether they have experience treating the adult children of bpd parents. If there are no specialists in your area, then I suggest broadening your search to include psychologists with experience treating the adult survivors of child abuse, or experience treating those with ptsd (trauma recovery) or experience treating the adult children of alcoholic/substance abusing parents. The kinds of abusive behaviors (on the part of the parents) and the kinds of damage inflicted on the children is similar. At the website " Psychology Today " they have a section for locating a therapist by city and by specialty. I just found another website called " Good Therapy " that I found by Googling " Find a therapist who specializes in adult survivors of child abuse. " Here's the link: http://www.goodtherapy.org/ -Annie > > Is anyone aware of a resource that identifies therapists who are especially experienced with KO BPD/NPD parents? >
