I saw many members of Dallas Fire/Rescue, including officers and three

of their medical directors at the conference. You may not have noticed

them because they are not required to wear their uniforms when they are

off duty. When you put thm in regular clothes, they look like everyone

else.

Perhaps one of the reasons these men and women do not flock to the

conference is that their departments provide all the continuing

education on duty.

Is there a particular group, committee or person who puts the activities for the

conference together?

I'm glad they were there, and you would know, since you know them.

While I appreciate that CE is furnished them, and I know you're a part of

that, and that the quality is good, still, there's nothing like the offerings at

the conference in normal CE programs.

Where else can you see such a grand buffet of courses to choose from with so

many differing points of view and so many excellent presenters from different

backgrounds?

One of the bad things about in-house CE is that (no offense) it tends to get

incestuous. Same presenters, same content, same room, same co-attendees, and

so forth.

I am always thrilled when, in one of my presentations, a question is asked by

somebody that is so insightful, so on point, that it brings a new

perspective. That is so hard to achieve in routine in-house CE, not that it

can't be

done, but is usually isn't.

I'm glad there was participation by the DFR people. That's a good sign.

If there is, I would like to suggest that they look at getting food from some

other place. The food for Monday and especially Tuesday. In the words of Chef

Gordon Ramsey, the food was crap. Thank goodness for Rickey's BBQ.

Otherwise, I thought the conference was great. Good job and staff.

I agree with Mr. Navarro, I met some good guys from SAFD. We are a

medium size dept. in Corpus Christi, but there were 12 of us there.

You wouldn't know it because we are not in uniform. My partner and I

attended a class every hour and a pre-conference class, however, when

it came to the conference lectures we didn't write down the " special

number " because our CE hours are provided by the dept. So, I also

agree with Mr. Navarro's statement regarding that issue.
