Guest guest
My Mom has done a lot of crazy stuff, but what surprises me is that there is no end, It gets worse and more damaging to everyone! She never has remorse and she never stops! Her latest- She was put in a psych ward on a 72 hour hold because of her behavior in the ER. She was there for 14 days. Because she (admittingly) slammed a door into a nurse and pissed off everyone who came in contact with her. She left pretty heavily drugged. I liked her doctor. He was tough, he didn't buy into her bull. He didn't suck up and was very honest with her. This is the first time I think she ever met someone like this. My Mom has had over 100 jobs in her life and i am willing to bet the same amount of doctors. She just complains about how awful they are and then moves to the next. Anyways- she stayed on the meds for about two days. Then she quit the meds. She lied to me for about two weeks (the pharmacy screwed up etc etc) until she was in full blown mania and I called her out. She told me she went to see her Dr. and he was disgusting. " He was eating mouthfuls of girlscout cookies and playing with his belly button. " was her exact quote. Now, today she told me that she reported him for playing with his nipples in front of her! I am 99percent sure this is all a lie. I can't believe she would do this to someone. I don't know what I can do. She just seems hopeless. I hope they video tape sessions and bust her on her lies. I doubt it though.
Guest guest
Wow. That sounds so much like my nada ( " nada " is shorthand here for " not a mom " or " mom with bpd " ) who began exhibiting even more than her usual borderline pd level of delusional, paranoid thoughts and behaviors and began acting out in public with violence, hysteria and rage and bizarre behaviors (like going outside in the dead of night in her pajamas to dig holes around the apartment complex she lived in to bury her possessions) as she approached full-blown psychosis. But there was nothing Sister could do while our mom was still just on the edge of functionality, yet clearly beginning to deteriorate. Sister and our Aunt (nada's sister) were able to persuade nada to see a psychiatrist; he gave a tentative diagnosis of senile dementia and prescribed an anti-psychotic med for nada, but the anti-psychotic had no effect. I personally think she wasn't taking them, because later she accused her doctors and others of trying to poison her; I think nada lied to Sister, who trusted nada to take the med. Instead of lessening, nada's hallucinations got worse, until she ended up being escorted by the police to a hospital for a psychiatric hold and evaluation. Its just really so heartbreakingly sad, and frustrating and frightening that it takes getting to the point of actively hallucinating and exhibiting dangerous, violent, frightening behaviors before anything can really be done to help the individual suffering from dementia or some other form of psychosis. I'm sorry so many here are having to go through that with their own bpd moms and/or dads. Senile dementia is just heartbreaking, truly. -Annie > > My Mom has done a lot of crazy stuff, but what surprises me is that there is no end, It gets worse and more damaging to everyone! Guest guest
How dreadful. Her claim of having reported him may be just as bogus as her claims that he did these things. Even if she really did report him, the powers that be are likely to take into consideration the fact that she was in a psych ward and has diagnosed mental problems. In the game of " he said, she said " , the person with the more upstanding reputation often wins. Guest guest
Is there any way that you can warn the doctor that your nada is making such accusations and that she has a history of this behavior (maybe even tell him your suspicions of her BPD)? > > My Mom has done a lot of crazy stuff, but what surprises me is that there is no end, It gets worse and more damaging to everyone! Guest guest
If her doctor is smart he has probably always had a nurse or P.A or aide or another person in room with him. Young doctors might make this mistake once, but we have been in a law suit happy climate for so long, that most doctors are advised during residency or as early as med school, never be alone with a patient. My husband is never alone with a patient for his protection, maybe Nada's doctor knew that too. Guest guest
I constantly see doctors alone and my dtr in the psych ward saw her doctors alone. And she was incredibly unstable. My impression was that mental hospitals don't fear their patients at all. I witnessed many altercations physical and verbal, many lies told by my dtr, letters written by a friend who was hospitalized compalining about staff abuses. I really don't think a psych staff gets rattled by anything. Sue
Guest guest
My husband works in hospice care and one of the things they taught him was you cannot live in fear of what the patient might say. That is, elderly or very ill people may get angry and make accusations. Yes, those accusations have to be checked out but most of the time there's no basis for them. Nurses and doctors completely understand that some patients will lash out either in anger or due to mental instability. But they all understand that's part of patient care. I couldn't handle it. Even now if my nada makes some snarky remark about me, I get diarrhea. LOL Nope, not my kind of job. > > > I constantly see doctors alone and my dtr in the psych ward saw her doctors alone.
