Guest guest
That's what I would like to know, because according to the author of enzyme nutrition ( I can't think of his name right now) everything that is raw has it's own enzymes intact, thus can be digested. Guest guest
> I've read folks here talking about eating egg yolks but not the whites, why? > > Belinda Because people think they will develop a biotin deficiency if they eat the white, as avidin in the egg white can bind with biotin in the intestine (where it is synthesized by gut bacteria). From the beyondveg website http://www.beyondveg.com/tu-j-l/raw-cooked/raw-cooked-1g.shtml " Raw egg white contains a protein called " conalbumin " which binds to iron. Additionally, raw egg white contains avidin, which binds to biotin and can impair metabolism of other B-vitamins. Note however that raw egg toxicity should not be overstated: 20 raw eggs per day for several weeks would be necessary to create a biotin deficiency. " Also, Aajonus Vonderplanitz has determined that the abundance of biotin in the yolk more than makes up for that effect. He also noted that when people and animals eat only the yolk, their metabolism goes up to such a high degree that they develop a voracious appetite. He finds nothing but good effects from eating the whole raw egg. Note with respect to iron, Aajonus' Primal Diet is rich in both heme iron from raw meat and plant iron from raw parsley juice. I just don't like > slimy stuff!! --snip-- It took some getting used to for me too. Blended in a cream, honey, egg smoothy, the slime is not noticable. I also eat them sucked from the shell by cracking a hole in one end (very small) and cracking a bigger hole in the other end. I then hold it up and suck it out from the bottom. The slime is less noticable and you never see the white or yolk. Portland, OR
Guest guest
Adelle said that egg allergies came from eating uncooked egg whites...that's why I never did. I guess that was not true then? Sonja
