creepy feeling

Hey Guys,

I have the creepiest feeling! I need help shaking it off. So every year for

the last 3 years I have done a whole bunch of work to help put on a big arts

and crafts fair in my town.

I've been at the fair for the last 14 hours. Trying to sell my stuff as one

of the artists.

Anyway, something strange was going on in my city. People acted like total

zombies, squinting and staring at you. I had free marketing items and I had

real models wearing clothes I'd made hand them out. " Would you like a free

pin, " The models would say. " What's a pin, " was the zombies response before

the shoppers squinted at it and walked away. Seriously! You couldn't give

things away at this show!!!

Even my friends acted weird. My boyfriend's family seemed very bothered by

my models - who were sexy but nothing you don't see on the cover of People

magazine while you are buying your pop tarts or whatever. I mean a 2 piece

swim suit was shocking in 1940 but I think now peeps are pretty used to it.

.. .

And then I only sold 3 items (1 big 2 small) bringing in a grand total of

$24 for 3 months of work. It didn't even pay for lunch and parking. . .

I don't mind not earning a lot, I know cash is tight and I know that things

are hard. I can usually get enough new people to follow my blog after a show

to make it worth the time. But I do mind people acting like freaks.

Oh ps we also had to wait, after vending in 96 degree weather for 13 hours,

for the line to get out of the parking area to subside. I was afraid I would

run out of gas from sitting there.

Even at 11 pm when I was trying to relax in a corner while waiting for the

parking line to die down a crazy lady came and sat SUPER close to me and

started ranting about politics! Grinning and gigleing to herself an acting

like I was supposed to jump up and high five her because her fav person

declared candidacy. PS we don't see the world the same way in politics - but

that nuance is less important than the fact that she is NUTSO!!!!

Anyway, nothing financially to show for 3 months of work but much much

worse just this grody feeling like I'm living in a horor movie.

Help me shake it off guys, I'm in a terrible mood. . . . I may never vend at

another art show. I was actully in the publicity for the show because I

planned it and I was my own fall back artist and I got a lot more out of

that than I got out of vending. One lady even told me a sweater I spent 3

weeks making that had antique buttons she could get elsewhere for 20. Go

ahead and get it lady, but no need to freaking say that outloud to the

artist who made and priced it!! PS It was a piece of art, a toddler, sweater

dress and every inch lace with antique buttons that my great grand nada had

in her craft box. Sure, go get one at Walmart lady, its exactly the same

thing.

HA HA HA sorry guys, just need a pick me up, Love Girlscout

well, to be honest, I enjoy reading your posts, girlscout, when you talk about

belly dancing or art or whatever you are doing. It's encouraging to me to know

what KO's can do, not just in the professional world but as an avocation too...I

was taught to not strive for anything so that I didn't threaten to outshine my

NPD father or make my mother uncomfortable (because she did not pursue her

education or creativity). I feel completely uplifted reading about the things we

do, in fact I would love to read a thread about our talents as KO's and what

people have accomplished, where they have traveled, what languages they speak,

etc, etc, even what their kids have accomplished, because every bit of it gives

me hope and it's evidence against the 'biological family is destiny' rut I

sometimes find myself in.

That said, I agree with sometimes it's the moon...Mercury is in

retrograde and let me tell you this is something for me that I find relevant

despite astrology being regarded as hocus pocus, as a Virgo my ruling planet is

Mercury so when Mercury goes retrograde I realllllllllly feel it. It is supposed

to end on the 26th of August, really hitting me hard this year because we have

had an unprecedented heat wave where I live and it has been a very rough summer.

first of all, GS, I have always wanted that kind of talent -- to be able to make

a dress and things like that, I think, is tremendous. What a rude, ignorant

thing for that lady to say to you.

on to the creepiness: do you think maybe it was the heat got to people? People

tend to act very wacky in the heat.

Or maybe they're all pods!! ;)

It seems that people in general around where I live, anyway, seem to be driving

more recklessly, seem to be ruder, in more of a hurry, and/or drunker in public.

My theory is that the general public is perhaps just reaching overload levels of

stress RE.... life, the universe, and everything. Uncertainty RE the economy

for so long is getting to people, I think. But that's just something we have to

weather, like the Dust Bowl or hurricane season, or a long illness, and it will

pass, and we'll survive it.

Really interesting thoughts guys. I do think the heat was part of it. But

then as I'm sitting there trying to be friendly for 13 hours in the heat

too, I think, god, I know its hot but you're just passing through. i'm out

here for good. Can't you spare a smile???!!!! I wondered too if the market

crash last week made people suspicious of others selling items. I don't mind

if they don't buy anything - A lot of what I would make I would almost

rather keep, but the snarly attitudes bugged. And people didn't even want to

accept a free pin or sticker. If I had a nickle for every time I heard

" What's a pin " in response to " would you like a pin? " Holy crap, tons and

tons and tons of people give out promotional pins!!!! The other thing I've

noticed is a huge increase in door to door sales since the recession began -

- - so I wonder if that has added to the suspicion. I also (and I feel this

way esp at my job) feel like everyone wants me to work for them and ask

absolutly nothing in return. Nothing at all whatsoever I should just do it

because the want me to do it. I'm kinda over that attitude. I mean I have

spent decades learning my trade!

I'm gonna start a creativitly thread now :) xoxoxo

Recently I've seen an increasing level of hostility on my Facebook page. Angry

political posts, posts and reply comments in which the poster has no tolerance

or kindness for anyone or anything, rants with no bearing in reality, it's

really weird - almost as if people are stressed to the max, just as you say,

Annie.

Maybe that's why GS experienced the zombie people.

I actually went through this morning and hid a bunch of people from my feed - if

they can't say anything more interesting, uplifting or meaningful than " throw

the president off a plane " or " repost this or you don't care about people with

cancer...diabetes...autism...whatever the cause of the week is... " - then I

don't need to read it.

Now maybe that is stress, maybe the moon phase....or maybe we are all just

becoming more enlightened people from what we've learned having been raised by

borderlines. In other words, maybe people have always been like this, and we are

just more aware of it.

A thought, that.

Good point Miss - boyfriend posted a stupid silly remix of a political

candiate saying something silly (kinda like remember the nuclear nucular

stuff) and his brother freaked out!!!! I didn't help matters really because

I started teasing him. . . . but I was just being silly. . . anyway yeah

what is up with that! I've always said facebook is like a party - - - you

keep the conversation light and entertaining - no need to get into a deep

debate!!!!
