Guest guest
Hi, We were talking about BPD in the media recently and I wondered if anyone had seen the film " Precious " . If so, do you think the mother was BPD? What an incredibly sad, difficult movie to watch! -Terri
Guest guest
Definitely some kind of PD just not sure if it would be borderline or narcissistic. It really broke my heart at the end of the movie when the mother tried to explain why she felt justified in doing what she had done. Clearly there was some PD going on there, and I actually felt sorry for her. At the same time, once you become an adult, you are responsible for taking care of your own actions. My heart really does break for people who have BPD and how they suffer. Of course, my heart breaks for those with leprosy too but it doesn't mean I want to go live in a leper colony (making a joke, no offense to anyone with leprosy). > > Hi, > > We were talking about BPD in the media recently and I wondered if anyone had > seen the film " Precious " . > > If so, do you think the mother was BPD? > > What an incredibly sad, difficult movie to watch! > > -Terri > >
Guest guest
No I haven't. I have a really hard time seeing movies like that, but at the same time think I should see them to help process to what depths the human spirit can go, and because it is real and I beleive we need to know about these things to see the signs, be a witness, help someone who may need us to see what is happening someday. But I haven't been able to see it yet myself. Guest guest
I guess I am not there yet, feeling sorry for how BP suffer. I am too new to recognizing the wake of destruction they leave behind them. It just doesn't make sense to me yet, may never, how someone can be so self centered and mean and not see how that negativley impacts/damages others. And how anyone can think it is always everyone else's fault is just so unreasonable. Ugh... > > > > Hi, > > > > We were talking about BPD in the media recently and I wondered if anyone had > > seen the film " Precious " . > > > > If so, do you think the mother was BPD? > > > > What an incredibly sad, difficult movie to watch! > > > > -Terri > > > >
Guest guest
I did think she was BPD, yes. I am not very versed in NPD though, so I could be way off. ________________________________ To: WTOAdultChildren1 Sent: Mon, August 15, 2011 12:43:31 PM Subject: Re: The film 'Precious'. Guest guest
I saw the movie and yes the mother is BPD. It is a testament to the human spirit too. Felicia Ward Remember that people often have different perceptions of the same reality. You can both be right, and no one has to be wrong, if each of you is willing to let the other person have his or her perceptions and if both of you are willing to compromise. To: WTOAdultChildren1 Sent: Monday, August 15, 2011 10:50 AM Subject: Re: Re: The film 'Precious'.  I did think she was BPD, yes. Guest guest
Yes; my impression was that both the mother and the father had Cluster B pds, but more in the narcissistic pd and antisocial pd range because of the neglect of Precious' emotional needs, treating Precious like an object (or like a servant), the constant denigration and criticism of Precious, and the manipulating of the welfare system and the incest. Its been a while since I saw the film; I don't recall Precious' mother having rapid, wild mood swings (being emotionally labile), showing a fear of abandonment, viewing other people as either all good or all bad, or the other traits I associate with bpd. But its been about a year, I think, since I saw it, and I guess I was more struck by the mother's and father's lack of empathy, the way they treated Precious more like an appliance than like a human being, and from what I understand lack of empathy and chronic lying/manipulating is more in the npd/aspd range of behaviors. -Annie > > Hi, > > We were talking about BPD in the media recently and I wondered if anyone had > seen the film " Precious " . > > If so, do you think the mother was BPD? > > What an incredibly sad, difficult movie to watch! > > -Terri > >
Guest guest
That movie was amazing. I say hard core personality disorder PLUS - plus antisocial, plus alcoholism plus sex addition PLUS PLUS PLUS I was really happy when the mom actress got the academy award - because that was amazing acting. On another note, my boyfriend had a really hard time watching it. Which I always find weird - he just isn't used to the maltreatment and it deeply troubles him. I guess he gives me a glimpse into real humanity. . . . Guest guest
I've never seen it, but the handful of people I know who watched it -- each one -- told me they left the theater halfway through and couldn't finish watching it. It was just too painful. I have no desire to see it, not surprisingly! > > Hi, > > We were talking about BPD in the media recently and I wondered if anyone had > seen the film " Precious " . > > If so, do you think the mother was BPD? > > What an incredibly sad, difficult movie to watch! > > -Terri > >
Guest guest
I HATED that movie, and yes, I guarantee she had BPD. I was glad when the movie was over... e > > Hi, > > We were talking about BPD in the media recently and I wondered if anyone had > seen the film " Precious " . > > If so, do you think the mother was BPD? > > What an incredibly sad, difficult movie to watch! > > -Terri > >
Guest guest
I'm with you. So many people talked about the fantastic movie " Precious " and I figured we should rent it and see. I assumed it was a feel good movie about a young woman overcoming her difficult childhood. What was that other movie about a young black man that was helped by that white woman and her family? Anyway, I couldn't get through " Precious. " The violence and rape made me sick. I know it happens (duh) but I don't want to see it as entertainment. My mind has enough garbage memories that I don't want, the last thing I need is to see more.
Guest guest
I agree with your PD+ analysis, lol. I went and rewatched the movie after seeing this thread. Funny how I didn't make the connection the first time. I must have been in denial. It was a really well-done movie though. About your boyfriend being uncomfortable watching it...that reminds me of a post on here a while ago that said we KO have " personalities fired in the kiln of the disordered. " I think the point of the post was that people who didn't have abusive parents perceive things so differently from us KOs sometimes. It's really interesting to me. > > That movie was amazing.
