Guest guest
Just remembered: During the 1980's cell phones were known in Swedish slang as "yuppienalle" (where nalle is Swedish for teddy bear). I.e. "A teddy bear for yuppies". Might be a good word to know when one is finally joining the ranks of the cell phone users. Maybe...At least it's a good word to know when defending the choice not to have one, I know from experience ("A cell phone? No, I don't wanna look like a 1980's yuppie...").I am still a bit of a reluctant and/or unusual cell phone user, in that I don't keep it on, or even within reach, 24/7... Trying to reach me on the cell phone is not easy. You need to catch me exactly when I am carrying it AND have it on AND have remembered to put the sound back on after my latest library sejour... I tell people, "Don't call me on the cell phone, text me instead, I'll probably see the text within a week at least"...In fact, I tried to tell the officers on the scene when I and were witnesses of an assault the same thing, when they were taking down names etc. "It's no use to put down my cell phone number, you won't reach me on it anyway". But they insisted on ALL phone numbers. And guess what number the investigator later tried first. The cell phone number of course... And did not reach me on it...But, given how people (even the police obviously) usually try the land line only as a last resort, it IS starting to look like it could be replaced by cell. I won't go there yet, though. I'll probably be among the last people to do that too...Despite that though, it IS a practical thing to have. To be able to make emergency calls, if nothing else. love/Reb - the phone-conservative...
Guest guest
Reb, it's not that I didn't *want*a cell, but I really don't have a lot of people TO call, and I already have both the landline AND skype...and usually cell phone plans are out of my financial reach. This plan, however, falls within my budget, and I like that it will have a camera so I wound have to lug my digital one around anymore (not like it's heavy but the case I keep it in for protection takes up about 1/4 of my purse)., Plus I suddenly have a few people I'd like to text. So, instead of an aging hippy, now I'm an aging yuppie? ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ Pragmatic Visionary http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- For Akiba ( & all) about cell phones Just remembered: During the 1980's cell phones were known in Swedish slang as "yuppienalle" (where nalle is Swedish for teddy bear). Guest guest
There are more and more people giving up their landlines and only using their cellphones. I can't do that because we don't get reception way out here where I live. Well, I should clarify. We do get reception here but only up on the hill near the house. Not very practical:)I have a cellphone but I only turn it on when I go somewhere, so I am kind of like you Reb. When my cellphone does ring it startled the heck out of me and I usually push "end" instead of "answer". So I'm not very good at being a cellphone user! lol SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
