Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I discovered a new item at my local health food store. It is Spectrum coconut oil and it is expellsor(sp?)pressed. The color is more natural looking, not as white as their body use coconut oil. It doesn't say " virgin " coconut, but at least it is organic (whatever that means?). It certainly looked less refined, but of course I don't know how it tastes. The cost is $4.49 for 14 oz. I bought some of their semi refined coconul oil a long time ago and did not like it at all. I didn't want to buy this newer product until I checked to see if any of you had tried it? Sheila

I asked the owner about the refined part. He said the refinement during expellsoring is minimal. It removes some impurities, but not many. I don't know much about refining process's. isn't cold pressed the best? Does anyone know about expellsored oils? Sheila
Guest guest
I haven't used the stuff, but someone on this list (?) said " refined " in this case means bleached and deodorized. I'd stay away from it.
Guest guest
Hi, I agree with you about Spectrum Naturals. I haven't tried it but I went to their website and I was not impressed. I buy Omega Nutrition coconut oil. Bee - In , OneGreyOwl@a... wrote: > Sorry, but IMO, the Spectrum coconut oil is just gross. Guest guest
Bee, are there any other brands of coconut oil you'd recommend? I know Dr. Mercola recommends a specific brand as well. Thanks! Jelaine > > Hi, > > I agree with you about Spectrum Naturals. Guest guest
What is Herxheimer Reaction? I have that exact coconut oil and don't want to throw it away. Should I still use it until I get the good stuff? Is it helping me at all? I'm already up to about 2-3 Tbsp. within a 2 day period and I'm not having any reaction to it. Shouldn't I have been feeling some affects from it since I just started taking coconut oil 2 days ago because usually you have to work up to that amount in more than a 2 day period? I bought it (Spectrum Refined).....fried with it and drank it all week. I now have the Herxheimer Reaction and feel like crap. I can't wait for my Puritan's REAL coconut oil to arrive and fully enjoy when I am better! Shari
Guest guest
Thanks so much Shari for that link. I am truly looking forward to feeling crappy ), yes I know, I AM a sick pup, lol. Because the Spectrum has no taste, I'm able to scoop it up and just eat it straight. I couldn't do that with the unrefined one which is why I took it back to the store. Shari, I'm going to hold you to my crappy feeling that should be coming in the next day or so. If not, I'm going to send my critters your way since your body seems to know how to zap 'em, lol. Thanks again. http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/6412/herxheimer.htm Tropical Traditions talks of this reaction. I have been on 2 tbsp in the morning and 2 more at night. Fried with it occasionally, but for the most part, drank it. I am on Day 6. This " reaction " started (detoxing my body) on Day 4. This is a good thing though. Your body needs to rid ofexcess fungi, yeast, etc...... ....you should start feeling like crap tomorrow or the next day. LOL Sorry to giggle, but it's true!! Hang in there and keep drinking your oil. Shari P.S. Yes, use it up and don't waste it. Makes a great skin conditioner, a few drops in the bath water.........suppose to be great for your skin> amongst other things! Google it! Guest guest
I wondered if the unrefined would be tastier but did not chance it. It's only $6 but I'm hooked on the Garden of Life brand and it's delicious but pricey at $14. > > : > > > Spectrum makes two kinds: refined and unrefined.
