It's software. Elaborate ones are going to cost money. People don't generally work for free. There are very few truly expensive apps and the ones that are have a very specific market (Slingbox is $50, yearly subscription for picture communication is I think $99 - but these aren't cheap outside of apple so I don't really understand what ur saying, it's ctually significantly cheaper to use the apps for some things). There are still plenty of free apps that work wonders. Kitchen Sink was a favorite in my house along with many others that totally worked on fine motor, hand eye coordination, etc. You don't have to buy an app directed towards autism to have an autistic child benefit.I get where you're coming from, I really do. Many of us don't have ton of money to spend on things like iPads and apps. But the games I buy are so much cheaper than buying games for the Wii or PS3. I have a mac house so we have a lot of apple things but I can't afford to get the latest and greatest. IPhone just came to sprint and I have to wait 2 years because just got a new phone so no upgrade for me. We're saving up to get ipads for christmas this year. Their products aren't cheap but they never have been. It's nothing new.My biggest complaint is the proprietary hold they keep close to the vest for many things, namely chargers and software talking to other devices besides apple stuff but I do firmly believe that people should get paid for their work. Developing and maintaining apps is a lot of work. Some of them require rather large servers to keep running. Ads don't generally generate much $ because they usually get paid on click-thrus.Most free apps are free because they are pretty simple apps.CherylSent from my Palm Pre - These are not the typos you are looking for... Boo! My phone is in for repairs and 'm stuck using this Pre until it comes back!:(

May be they do BUTthe cost of purchasing apps and inability to resale the apps upsets me a big time. I think Apple is becoming more and more greedy for its share in the pie which a shooting up the price of the apps.

This is my problem with Apple... but I do own an itouch. My kids love it. They are 5 and 6, so I don't mind waiting a bit for an ipad, they already have way too much addiction to screens. :-\
