Guest guest
Am I the only person whose PTSD gets triggered every time I try to do some online banking and get dragged into the past via those annoying security questions? What was your mother's maiden name? What is the name of the street you grew up on? etc etc. This morning I got fed up and emailed my bank to ask if i could customize the questions just for me. If I can get them to work with me, then I'm going after my credit card company too. I do online banking about 4 times a week. It's too often to be revisitng Nada, Fada and the whole " walk of horror down memory lane. " Anybody else share this issue with me? Guest guest
I never thought about it, but now that you mention it when given the choice I pick security questions that have nothing to do with my childhood, such as " what is your favorite pet's name? " That's cool if your bank or credit card company will let you create custom security questions. If not, you can make up some answers to use of names and places you like: " Mother's maiden name? " Eglantine buck. " The street you grew up on? " The Yellow Brick Road. etc. -Annie > > Am I the only person whose PTSD gets triggered every time I try to do some online banking and get dragged into the past via those annoying security questions? > > What was your mother's maiden name? > What is the name of the street you grew up on? > > etc etc. This morning I got fed up and emailed my bank to ask if i could customize the questions just for me. Guest guest
Not only are security questions like " Mother's maiden name? " or " street you grew up on? " reminders of things we don't necessarily want to be reminded of, they aren't very secure. Finding out basic information like that is not terribly hard when so much personal and geneological information can be found on the internet. If a website insists that you provide answers of that sort, you should definitely not use an answer that an identity thief could find. Making up something, or using something that refers to the right answer in a non-standard way is advisable. Guest guest
I like the idea of making up names and places in response to some of those questions. It's actually more secure--then people can't guess it. In a similar vein, I once was pissed at the ridiculous password requirements of this one site, so I put down something along the lines of F*ck_you1 (for the life of me, I can't remember the password, which is just as well...ha.) Maybe you can do something snarky like that to those questions? Guest guest
Oh yeah those questions piss me off because, gee who would be likely to know the answers to them besides me? I make up deliberately false answers or if the option is there make up my own questions.
