Guest guest
Microencephaly only means small brain/head; and has been associated with symptoms at times, not always. In other words, some people have small heads with no symptoms from it. Autism is associated with normal-sized heads, extra large heads, and smaller heads. Autism only means a group of symptoms suggesting odd behaviors, and deficiencies in communication and social skills. I have not seen people on the forums state their child has autism and a small head. What I mostly see are people stating their children have larger than normal or normal-sized heads. This is true for my family - large heads in infancy until they are in their teens, then normal. I think that it's more likely to be a genetic issue when a small head is involved or at least it's not the typical presentation seen in the autism we see on the forums. The typical child we see on the forums has immune dysfunction (too many toxins, pathogens, digestive issues, and nutrient deficiencies). And then a small percentage seem to have genetic or a more unique issue that brought on the autism. There are some forms of mental retardation that are associated with small heads, and I think they blame it on a genetic issue. But, with the Internet and advances you can research and learn about, even the genetic issues have lots of treatment options. And don't forget the prayer option. Love and prayers, Heidi N does anyone know anything about this???
Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I am coming from a C-section perspective, in that these individuals may be either delivered by C-section because of larger heads....and/or their heads may be larger because they are delivered by C-section? I once read somewhere that the autism population has a higher rate of being delivered by C-section. The OBs wanted to say it was because they are autistic in the womb, necessitating the C-section delivery. birthpsychology.com cesareanvoices.com Bev > > Microencephaly only means small brain/head; and has been associated with > symptoms at times, not always. Guest guest
Heidi Thank u for your calming email. I have visited a number of neurologists who have all measured her head and said it is on the small side of normal. There is no question my daughter is part of the small genetic group. We r dealing with many immune dysfunction issues plus what appears to be mental retardation although there is still so much that is unclear to me about my daughter. Do you know of any forums that deal with autism and mental retardation. It all feels very upsetting and overwhelming. Thank u and blessings to u Sent from Yahoo! Guest guest
I haven't scanned all the autism forums available in a quite a while, so I won't know about one that talks a lot about MR and autism. And please let me say that " mental retardation " is the scientific term used to describe an IQ of 70 or below. I know some people don't like the wording, but it is the scientific term that is used to describe low IQ, so we kind of have to use it because other words would not be specific enough. It is often said that those with autism have lower IQs. I know it's also said that some have high IQ's in some areas or even normal IQs. But, some docs (not our autism biomed docs) view them as mental retarded. I am also not believing that children are born with autism in most cases. What appears to be going on in the current autism epidemic is the 50/50-LD rule in science. This refers to the amount that a certain toxin will kill 50% of the mice. Less toxin, less die; more toxin, more die. With autism, they are described as canaries because they are getting ill first. We blamed the deaths of the mice on the toxin, but we describe the reason only 50% die as opposed to all of them at that certain toxin level, as from genetics, diet, weight, etc. So, with our children with autism, they have certain genetics, not specific genes, but just weaker genes in general towards ridding toxins. Thus, their immune systems fall more easier than the general populations. But, also, the environment plays a role, such as diet, weight, electrosmog, pathogen exposure, etc. So, just saying, if you think your child has a strong genetic reason for her autism, plus also has immune dysfunction, realize that certain genetics make one more susceptible to the immune system stressors we all get exposed to. But, there are not autism genes at this times, but more so several genetic issues have been found to make one more susceptible. Yasko has genetic panels that are well described all over the Internet that people often do for genetic findings, and of course, most autism recovery docs treat the immune system. Some docs focus more on viruses, some more on bacteria. I think they are both involved, as well as parasites. In addition to the genetic issues, damage is also being found to the blood brain barrier and livers, which is hampering the body's ability to absorb nutrients into the brain and to detox. Plus, swelling in the vessels/veins in the neck is being found to impede blood flow back out of the brain, which is being blamed for causing toxins to stockpile in the brain, as well as even causing sudden infant death in the very young infants. So, there is lots going on. Keep in mind that having immune dysfunction alone, from toxins and/or pathogens, can cause nearly every known symptom and condition. With more than 30% of the population getting cancer, that alone should tell us that our bodies are not working correctly anymore, whether it's autism, cancer or something else. This was all very rare in my childhood, so it's more an environment problem than a gene problem. Love and prayers, Heidi N Heidi Thank u for your calming email.
