Guest guest
Hi, I'm just wondering if anybody in the group uses a Service Dog for mobility purposes? If so, can you tell me about your experiences? Donna in WA
Guest guest
Hi Donna, I am in the process of training a service dog that will be used as a service dog for me. I find I am much more confident in getting around when I use her. It allows me much more freedom to go places with out having to take someone with me. I can walk with out feeling like I am going to fall and I also know that if I do fall I will be able to get up with her help. I hope this helps. I am here to help you if you need more advice. I am here to help.Margaret A. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, What kind of dog do you have? I am still looking for a dog. I've found a possible dog down in Oregon. She's a Siberian Husky/Shar Pei mix. So, she will be strong enough to help me get back on my feet when I fall. Her foster mom says that she is more like a Siberian Husky than a Shar Pei. She likes to pull. She is about 10 months old. From what I have read, Siberian Huskies are like puppies up until they are about 2 years old. I had a dobie down in Florida that was like that. Do you know if dogs of that age can learn to walk without pulling? My kids won't go for walks with me so I don't go. I'm afraid to fall down and not be able to get up and not get a cell phone signal. I have a walking staff; but, it doesn't do much to keep me on my feet if I start to go down. I would appreciate all comments you can give me. Is there key information I should look for when selecting a dog to be trained as a service dog? Guest guest
Hi Donna, I have a Chow Great Dane mix. I believe that a good service dog needs to enjoy working and being around people. Yes a ten month old can be taught not to pull. A siberan husky can be a good services dog because of there devotion too the handler\owener. You need to be willing to take the time to train them to be the best service dog out there. Love to you Margaret >Hi Margaret, > >What kind of dog do you have? I am still looking for a dog.
