I have always recommended people try the 6's or 9's if their kids ping off the wall from the 3's and the fish oils but that's only because I really believe EFA's are so important for our kids - I didn't realize there was competition there. Good to know. We've seen good stuff from omegas. Because I believe everything should be balanced, my son takes a fish/borage/flax combo in the morning. Recently I started adding in CLO twice a day in addition to that. (for the A & D). We're on l-carnitine for mito support. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Sunday, August 14, 2011 7:50 AMSubject: Re: Fish oil & OCD.. I think this relates to an earlier post about fats. If fats cause aggravation, consider acetyl-l-carnitine. There is write up about this in Dr. Shaw's new autism treatment book. Another thing to consider is omega 3 vs. 6 and the competition for conversion supports like B6. They compete for the same resources so if one oil causes issues, it may be an indicator for the other in some kids. Yeah, if your fish oil says "mixed tocopherols," chances are it's soy-based vitamin E.If it says d-l-alpha tocopherol, that is synthetic vitamin e, and if it says red palm oil or sunflower seed oil, those are other sources of vitamin E (non-soy.) If it says lecithin, it's probably soy lecithin unless it designates otherwise. The only other non soy vitamin E I have seen is wheat germ oil, which I think would also be an issue! I think Kirkman's CLO or fish oil is non-soy preservative. The other reason is they could be allergic to fish. Soy is one possible reason. If you have soy issues and aren't buying soy free... ~Antiviral Therapy 101 ~ http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com ~ ~ @Gryffins_Tail ~ Can anyone explain to me why Fish Oil causes major increase in OCD behaviors in some children? -- Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states. Guest guest
Hi AllWe currently use SPEAK from www.speechnutrients.com.Before this we used to give him Barleans swirl fish oil. Both of them have d-alpha tocopherol.let me switch back to Barleans because that has less d-alpha tocopherol to see if he's getting calm.RegardsAalok From: and Dave Wirth To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2012 8:12 AM Subject: Re: Fish oil & OCD.. Guest guest
very interesting... I am giving my son cod liver oil for few months for visual stims. It did help somewhat with the sideway glance but his obsession with spinning wheels is increasing every day. His stims are more advanced and he has started to stim in his head and no loner required a spinning wheel in sight. I wonder if the cod liver oil is the culprit here. He was on multiple vitamins few months back and were discontinued everything as some of these were adding to his stims. From what I see in the tests he has no yeast issue. His carnitine is below normal and also has low muscle tone and wondering if carnitine can help his OCD behavior. He also suffers from severe fear and anxiety. > > > > > > > > Can anyone explain to me why Fish Oil causes major increase in OCD > > behaviors in some children? > > > > > > > > > -- > Toni > > ------ > Mind like a steel trap... > Rusty and illegal in 37 states. >
