Guest guest
Hi all - Over a year ago this was the list I was *living* on daily until we had our big break through for my daughter via dietary intervention. It has been about 15 months and things have gone really, really well and not only is she doing really well but I've been able to support the dietary intervention of some other children with autism. I've written up my daughter's story (ZiZi) on a blog and in case this is helpful to anyone I respectfully submit the address for the blog: http://TribalMamas.blogspot.com Also, I have written the stories of the two local girls with autism that are having good results on the blog as well. lee and Maddie are their names and you'll see links for them. Their stories are shorter as I don't know the details as intimately as I know ZiZi's details. Maybe that makes it a better read anyway ;-) Hope you are all having good success on your journeys. I am in Richmond, VA so if anyone is local and needs any support on considering SCD/GAPS for their child my heart and home are open. - Kati
Guest guest
Congratulations Kati for the successes with diet. You mention of SCD/GAPS. I have the GAPS book. I like the book. I think its the best for self help purpose. But I am disturbed by the Yahoo Groupcalled Trying_Low_OxalatesThey are gung ho on low oxalate foods. According to them SCD doesn't protect us from oxalates. Oxalates from vitamin C and food deposit in thebrain and give symptoms. In view of this I am glad that you got successes without bothering about high/low oxalate foods. Also there is no mention of oxalates in the GAPS book. Do you think Dr. McBride, the GAPS author, would not include oxalates if oxalates were dangerously important?-------------Ratan Singh, Phone: 91 141 2652561, mail: ratanpsych@...- Certificate in Food & Nutrition; Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education; Life Member, Nutrition Soc. of India; Member ISOM- Author of "Nutrition & Supplements in Major Mental Illnesses";- M.A. (Psychol), Postgraduate Diploma in Medical & Social Psychology, Ph.D.;- Certified Behavior Therapist (from late Prof. J. Guest guest
RatanKati is on the TLO list and also has followed LOD. Maybe she's gone to a med ox diet but last year she was doing LOD+SCD/GAPS. Congratulations Kati for the successes with diet. You mention of SCD/GAPS. I have the GAPS book. I like the book. Guest guest
In case this response to Ratan (I sent it to him privately before realizing he had posted his comment on the listserv) is helpful to anyone else... ----------------------------------------------------------------- I actually did need to watch the oxalates in our food levels. We do a combination of LOD + SCD/GAPS. I don't think that everyone needs to layer in LOD onto their GAPS program but we did. My youngest, unfortunately, was urinating oxalate crystals. It was awful. I was also having very bad oxalate symptoms for the year prior to the diet, I just did not know what they were (and neither did my doctor). The vitamin C thing from the LOD people is not about natural vitamin C in foods. It is about vitamin C supplements because it is a heavy dose at one time and anything not immediately used can be converted to oxalate. I work to get good amounts of vitamin C in my family's foods but have been a wary of the vitamin C supplements. I don't really *love* giving supplements anyway I am not totally sure about Dr. NCM's take on oxalates. I wonder if perhaps she doesn't want to bother with the complexities of it. The SCD folks do discuss it on their board a bit but mostly shrug it off. I think you have to just pay attention to your own body. The human body is so complex and at this point I don't care what studies someone shows me. I care what my body and my two girls' bodies show me. - Kati
