Guest guest
Hello AllCan someone suggest of a good pediatric neurologist in NY who has experience in treating kids on Autism. Not sure if its required or not. I have a 5 yr old son who is very high on the Autism spectrum along with severe ADHD issues and we stay on Long Island but ready to go anywhere in NY.Recently we have seen that he has started getting panic attacks where in he screams a lot and literally has tears in his eyes. Happens out of the blue for no apparent reason. Looks like he is in too much pain physically or emotionally. Though he doesn't lose any consciousness and calms down with lot of hugs and tight hugs but it is happening every day now.RegardsAalok
Guest guest
Hi Aalok,Just curious if your son is verbal and can speak out his pain. I am just wondering if he may be having any headache/migraine (or even mild seizure) issues. No intention if scaring you but just as informed to us by our pediatrician to look for. Guest guest
Hi NoelHe is completely non verbal and therefore my heart cries that the poor child can't even let us know if he is having any issues. Only thing that he does is that he will clutch both his hands fingers and wriggle them back or forth. As such he doesn't hold his head to give any indications that he is having any pain there..But i still don't know what makes him get the panic attack.RegardsAalok To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 1:25 PM Subject: Re: Pediatric Neurologist in NY Hi Aalok,Just curious if your son is verbal and can speak out his pain. Guest guest
Hi Aalok,I strongly think you should record at least 3 to 4 sessions of this this kind of behavior, make sure its different time of the day, after different activity, after different food etc. and make a note of it. This will help the pediatrician make a better diagnosis. Have you looked at Mount Sinai or NYU for developmental pediatricians?Noel Hi NoelHe is completely non verbal and therefore my heart cries that the poor child can't even let us know if he is having any issues. Guest guest
Aalok, I've got a high functioning ten year old who went throug this. Though I can't say the episodes were out of the blue or for no reason. But he did go through a time where everything stressed and freaked him out. Consider having his thyroid tested (stopthethyroidmadness.com) and read up on adrenal fatigue. The effect stress can have on our bodies is CRAZY especially in a situation where we are sick and our bodies aren't properly equipped to handle it. There is also PANDAS /PANS to consider as on again - off again episodes that randomly pop up out of the blue is a red flag. Inflammation can cause this , as well. Check out the SCIA panel. (Stopcallingitautism.com). This panel is fairly comprehensive and can give you a pretty decent indication of what's going on. Journal his diet for a few weeks to see if you can make a food/behavior connection. Also, pay attention to the moon cycles. If his behavior tends to worsen near or on the full moon, that could indicate parasites. Also, some individuals are very sensitive to barometric pressure. In the mean time, consider looking into l -theanine and/or dmg, and/or magnesium/b6, and/or lithium orotate and /or gaba to soothe and calm him while you try to get to the bottom of things. I wish you well and hope your little guy feels better soon. Guest guest
Hello Caryn,Are there any specific tests for PANDAS. Just checking because we are currently doing a lot of blood tests and if possible, this too can be ruled out. He doesn't have any separation anxiety but yes he frequently urinates.RegardsAalok To: mb12valtrex Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2012 11:53 AM Subject: Re: Pediatric Neurologist in NY Have you considered PANDAS? Guest guest
There are blood tests for PANDAS, but only to rule it in, not to rule it out. My son was negative over and over, and only positive one time. It depends on the timing of the latest flare. It is worth testing. Pull blood for anti strep antibodies, anti-Dnase B titer and ASO titers. Who is doing your testing? You should come to our TACA meeting tomorrow night. It is 7:30 in a new location, a church in Ronkonkoma. > > > > Hello All > > > > Can someone suggest of a good pediatric neurologist in NY who has experience in treating kids on Autism. Guest guest
Hi Caryn I will positively try but i have a dinner plan with the families we meet at the park regularly. Thanks for all the information regarding PANDAS. I will check with my doctor to see if we can get these tests done. I will be going to an outpatient lab for the blood work and will be sending the blood samples to Genova Diagnostics for Oxidative Blood stress and Pediatric ION profile to Metametrix.
