Hello everyone

I am new to the group and I have a son Luke who is 10 and has autism and OCD. We

have recently discovered that he is very high in the CMV virus – with a IgG

reading of 177.7.

We had a terrible bout of intrusive thoughts recently and he has also had an

ongoing sore throat and last week had diarrhoea for a week. In the last couple

of weeks he has lost some weight quite quickly as I have noticed that his arms

and legs are very thin. He also sometimes has periods of the day where he seems

really fatigued. I also think he has a yeast problem as I have noticed that he

has a white tongue and has not been sleeping well at all.

My doctor has advised that we start Luke on acyclovir straight away for the CMV

virus as he is concerned that it is so high.

My questions are:

• Has anyone had success in treating CMV using acyclovir? I have read some

articles which seem to suggest that it is not effective in treating CMV?

• My doctor wants me to start straight away with the anti-viral as he feels some

of his symptoms could be related to CMV – e.g. OCD and sore throat? Should I

start straight away OR wait until luke seems healthier and his yeast problem is

under control?

• My doctor has recommended acyclovir not valtrex mainly because of the price –

does anyone know what the difference in price is AND which anti-viral would

people recommend based on their experiences?

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you in advance

Regards

Nicola
