I am trying my friend to figure out what we can do for the child while we are waiting for the early intervention and formal diagnosis. Baseline workup has shown some issues that we are trying to fix. One issue is low MCV and low iron stores. Iron deficiency can cause cognitive impairment and attention deficit. We were looking at some supplement for iron but I couldn't find a specific one in the autism supplement lines. We are thinking of getting ferrous sulfate compounded but if anyone has already dealt with iron deficiency and have other ideas, please share. We have already removed cow's milk and we are working on GFCF diet for the kid and other workup is going on as well. Thanks is

Guest guest
Thanks Casandra. Can you please share the dose? His son weighs 14 kg and according to literature, dose should be 3-6 mg/kg. Kirkman one contains 18 mg/5 ml. So did you give it multiple times a day? Thanks for your help. is > > > http://kirkmanlabs.com/ProductKirkman/122/1/Product%20Details/ I used this for my boys. Guest guest
I know I 've come across a few things such as the possibility of low ferretin levels being due to candida, parasites, and/or copper toxicity. Mercury, as well. But I could swear I remember a presentation by Klinghardt where he expressed his concern about doctors supplemention iron for low ferretin - when it's due to a completely different reason (copper???). I can't find it and this stupid thing is acting up. Tammy Sent from my Kindle Fire
Guest guest
Our son takes 65 mg liquid elemental ferrous sulfate (Rx) daily with vitamin C & 5 mg ferritin. He is 11 y o - almost 70 lbs Parent should reduce oxalates in child's diet because they tend to box out sulphate in the electron transport chain and they bind so tightly to iron that it is not utilized properly. This is according to Owens, oxalate researcher. I am going to cc her in case I butchered the concept. Thanks, Sent from my iPhone Hi everyone, My friend has an 18 month old boy who is possibly on the spectrum but the doctors are not sure what to call it yet as it is mild. Guest guest
Thanks Cassandra! My friend is extremely anxious these days as this is all very new for him and he is not even sure if his son is on the spectrum or not. I am on the phone with him almost for 2 hours every day explaining everything but as we all know that it takes time to grasp the whole biomed concept. He ordered the kirkman iron already and will be starting soon. is > > > > > > > > > http://kirkmanlabs.com/ProductKirkman/122/1/Product%20Details/ I used this for my boys. Guest guest
Tammy, My google search led me to this: http://drlwilson.com/Articles/IRON.htm My friend is very anxious and still thinks like a mainstream physician. He started prescription ferrous sulfate two days ago and after reading the above article, I told him to hold off on it and replace zinc first as his son's zinc/copper ratio is low. He already ordered kirkman iron and insists that he should at least give the RDA of iron with zinc. I agree with the fact that this could mean copper excess leading to iron deficiency and low ferritin. I have always had my son on zinc since the beginning and his ratio is good. Even though my son looks pale, his iron stores are good and Hb and MCV are good too. My son's whole system is so messed up but probably because we fixed the zinc/copper ratio, iron never became an issue. So please, don't lose your mind as what you brought up on the subject was very helpful and made me brainstorm even more but I learned something so useful. Thanks is > > I know I 've come across a few things such as the possibility of low ferretin levels being due to candida, parasites, and/or copper toxicity. Mercury, as well. Guest guest
is, Iron is very disrupted by oxalate. The first reason this is so is due to oxalate chelating iron. Also it interferes with utilization of iron because it inserts itself in transferrin and binds iron so well that the iron cannnot be released later. Why don't you see if he would be willing to have his son's general chemistry measured (along with oxalate markers) on the Great Plains OAT? > > > > > > > > > > > > http://kirkmanlabs.com/ProductKirkman/122/1/Product%20Details/ I used this for my boys. Guest guest
How do you suppplement B6 ? I had my son on P5P with magnesium and then I learned about phenol sensitivity and that P5P makes it worse by competing with phenols for the enzyme which is already low in these kids. So I stopped P5P. Now he gets some pyridoxine with p5p in his multivitamin. Also, was your child on low phenol along with low oxalate? I don't know what fruits to feed him as apple, orange, grapes are out because of phenols, banana needs to be limited because of amines and pears are high oxalate. My son is extremely sensitive to phenols, not so sure about oxalates but he is already not getting much oxalates. And also, what marker was elevated in his OAT to indicate oxalate issue? I will appreciate your help. Thanks is > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://kirkmanlabs.com/ProductKirkman/122/1/Product%20Details/ I used this for my boys. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks > > > > > > > > > > > > is > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Sorry, did not finish- send your OAT to - the oxalate researcher who recently replied to you. She will convert results based upon creatinine ratio and put you results in comparison to other kids with autism. Talking to her was one of the best things I've done. ( Toni & Alberta chime in if you're around) She does this for many, many tolks. She doesn't accept payment but will accept donations to her research if you are so inclined. Guest guest
is, I've also been trying for the last few months to achieve a balance between low salicylate and low oxalate diet without success. Originally our doc suggested that my son goes on low salicylate diet because he didn't do well on GAPS, so he thought this was be due to sensitivities to phenols/salicylates. Many of my son's symptoms got better but he continued to battle PANS?, recurring bacterial infections, so other symptoms like movement issues, OCD, anxiety etc kept on persisting. I didn't think much about oxalates because at the time I thought that he wasn't eating to many high oxalate foods. I had his OAT done through Metametrix so I had no idea about the oxalate markers until couple of months ago I got one done with Great Plains. Under oxalate metabolites he had high glyceric acid and high oxalic acid (his was 21 and 499, I'm assuming this is pretty high considering the reference range). My son's doc, although biomed is very old fashioned, questioned validity of the test. Finally, last week he ordered 24 hour oxalates test through regular local lab and it came back high in oxalates as well. On further though, I'm not sure if this is just due to the diet. My son has been on continues round of antibiotics lately and I wonder if that is contributing to the oxalate issue. The other thing is, he was on transdermal LDN for a while but started to get rashes from that, so I called the compounding pharmacy and they told me that one of the "vehicle" ingredients in the cream is polyethylene glycol. GPL explain on the test that ethylene glycol poisoning can cause elevated oxalates (I know polyethylene is not the same as ethylene but maybe?). Anyway, I'm not sure how to balance this two diets myself, but I think that in my son's case dealing with oxalates first means compromising on some salicylate foods. With fruit for example, mango? Low oxalate, medium salicylate? I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, especially since so often your posts describe the same issues my son is going through at the time.JoannaSent from my iPhone is,Our son doesn't react to phenols but still is nuts ( angry) on.
