Guest guest
Hi. As you all know Luke just had trach surgery due to severe obstruction causing apnea. Well, now that he has a trach he is sleeping great. Very quiet and no " pulling " like he was doing before. But he has a few times now set off the monitor for apnea, his sats drop and then come right back up. We don't have to intervene or anything, and it's NOTHING like before. I'm hoping that it is somewhat " normal " to have that happen especially when he's in his dreaming state of sleep (REM, I think). Now, I'm just worried that even after getting a trach and bypassing all his obstruction, he'll still have issues with apnea. Then what? My husband thinks it's totally normal and we all do it. Any opinions? Thanks. , Luke's mom (23 mo. w/CHARGE) http://www.caringbridge.org/mn/lukejoseph --------------------------------- Access over 1 million songs - Yahoo! Music Unlimited Try it today. Guest guest
lorraine here, taylyah never had the trach done but her stats were up and down all the time. the docs told me that it was ok but if you are worried ask your doc about it. just so your mind is at peace with what is going on.( as my best friend would tell me). > >Reply-To: CHARGE >To: CHARGE >Subject: Re: question about apnea >Date: Sun, 5 Nov 2006 11:12:39 +1100 > >i have seen peope with thatdonno what it is though xxxxx > > > > > > Hi. Guest guest
my daughter had severe apena. We did not realize how sever until her trach came out 3 years ago. After sleep studies, we saw that she had obstructive and neuro apena. The obstruction was mainly her tongue falling back, she had out grown the tracheal and bronchial malesia. Her Pulmonlogist and ENT said that the neuro was that sometimes her brain would forget to send the message for her to take a breath. Usually, she would catch her self, desat shortly, then take a breath. They also did say that we all do it to some degree. That if we had monitors on us, we would de sat! I am not sure what i was more worried about the obstruction or the neuro. We had to put her on a BIPAP via face mask. I was ready to say the trach was easier. After 1 year, we were able to get her off the BIPAP as well (10 months now!) Cathie, mom to 11 yr CHARGEr
