(off topic) HI Molly.... they insist that Bells Palsy is a virus... and why I could not get an antibiotic. (antibiotics will not work with a virus) But.... several patients did get better on one and why I struggled to get one (esp. the doxycycline).... and in my opinion, it's worth trying one.. it definitely was what helped me reverse mine. So who knows? Hugs hon Dee ~ ----- Original Message ----- From: molly ring To: VulvarDisorders Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 9:19 AM Subject: Re: Bells Palsy.. (off topic) I don't get it, is it bacterial? Dee/Dee's email to neuropathic pain/slides Dee – I am glad that you recovered from the Bells Palsy. I knew someone who had it and it took him a long time for him to get better. It is a very strange condition – he just woke up with it one morning. nne Like movies? Guest guest
<I wonder why they didn’t consider a steroid at the time …> nne They did nne, I refused it. I'd read too much by then and how it could be detrimental.. and luckily for me it was the antibiotic that did the trick. Heck had I thought about it back then, I should have thrown in an antihistamine *grin* since that helps reduce swelling & edema. (the nerve supposedly gets swollen and inflammed and pinched off) it might have helped. They also offered an antiherpes med... since BellsPalsy is supposedly a virus.. but I didn't take that either and I could have since I doubt that would have hurt anyting but I didn't. I don't know why on that one. The same with the electrical stimulation suggested .. read that it could re-wire things wrongly (the nerves that were being stimulated similiar to a TENS machine) and many I read reported that complaint or side effect too. Lordy, nothing like being your own doctor, LOL but by then I'd read easily over 20,000 articles and those were my instincts & conclusion after reading them all. The hardest part was trying to get a doctor to go along with something so simple as an antibiotic like the doxy. TG one did. But I did other things too like constantly stimulating the facial nerves using a soft toothbrush in an upward stroke, so they'd remember their position... constantly putting hot cloths or microwaved rice (in a bag) on the face was another suggestion, also taping the face 'UP' as high as possible (I looked like a mummy) .. to lift everything so the muscles would retain their memory.... trying to mouth certain words as exercises, etc.etc. and taking high potency vitamins, I don't think I was ever so disciplined in my life as I followed a routine rigidly that I wrote down.. *grin* but it was with the doxy and in 24 hours that I literally 'saw' it start to reverse and it was a little bit more each day.
