Good for you Lindsey – I know one prominent vulvar doctor that I

would like to do the same thing too. I don’t have the nerve to do it, but if

there were more women like you, we might get somewhere in our unfair treatment

of women’s conditions.

I think we should ALL consider writing to the

doctors who were

dismissive, unhelpful, or plain WRONG. At least writing to them or

even filing a complaint. I have written to two doctors that weren't

helpful with info about basic vulvodynia and treatment from NVA. I

wrote to another doc who said she was the " expert " and " only

game in

town " about vulvodynia which was why she was " so full I can't get you

in for six months " , but she also said, " Even though you THINK you're

getting better you're not. You will never get better. " That doc got a

complaint filed against her with the medical board and the UC system,

along with a lovely packet of info along with a suggestion that her

practice wouldn't be as overloaded if she gave proper care to her

patients.

I want to lovingly and supportingly challenge you on your " nerve " or

lack thereof. Is there anything you are specifically afraid of if

you make a complaint to that vulvar doc, the state's managed care

board or the state physician licensing or if you send the doc a

specific letter? There is very little the doc can do to you other

than refuse to see you or perhaps flag your chart as a " difficult

patient " for the same medical group. But without a release this doc

can't speak to any other doc outside of their medical system. Maybe

it would make you feel good just to write them a nasty f-you letter

that you never send. :-)

I like your last sentence Lindsey, I may do that. I have been

hurt by so many doctors over the past year. I wonder if they would even see

them (the letter) or if a nurse secretary screens mail. If I am going to do it,

I would like to know that they read it,.

And at the same time, I think I will write a letter to the

doctors who couldn’t help me, but admitted that they didn’t know

what I had, and tried very hard to find someone else for me to see,

And then there is my primary care doctor who I have been going

to for the last twenty years. Because I went over her head and out of their medical

“clique” system, she will not have the time of day for me.

Unfortunately she is tied to my heart doctor and my orthopedist and my thyroid doctor.

It is one big net worked system that I am trapped into. I like the rest of my

doctors, but I just wish I could get rid of her.
