=================================

''Frequently, diagnostic criteria that define the categories and subtypes of vulvodynia are neither well defined nor consistently utilized by many clinicians.''

Moreover, consistent nomenclature continues to be a problem.'' (The assigning of names, Dee)

''Two common diagnostic vulvodynia subtypes are based on whether the pain is generalized (dysesthetic) or localized (vestibulitis or vestibulodynia).''

''While histologic studies suggest a chronic inflammatory reaction, the causes of the inflammation, as well as its significance to vulvodynia, remain unclear. ''

Dr. A Goldstein says (and likely true as earlier studies show) that 'localized' VVS (vestibulodynia) is the case with over 30X's more nerve pain endings. (earlier studies -Bornstein et al,- said 10X's more)... & that it's probably a genetic inborn defect if it's primary... meaning it came on at an early age, tampons, soaps burning etc.etc. always a sensitivity.

And Secondary VVS if it came on later (likely after a period of pain free sex) they too will have far too many of those nerve pain endings, but it's probably 'acquired' or 'triggered' thru chemical or external abuse or trauma to the tissue like yeast meds, steroids, 'chemical burns', bascially some kind of trauma to the tissue. etc.

I remember one gal who's husband was 'huge' and that trauma to the tissue might do it *sigh* then add in giving birth and YIKES... especially if it's some sort of a genetic defect where the tissue just won't 'give' or doesn't have that elasticity... *sigh* at least the E & T can help there some AND so can the antihistamines... since they fight inflammation...

If you haven't see Goldsteins 14 treatments for VVS check out this link.

And his surgical drawings of what they do if surgery is needed here. *ouch*
