Guest guest
Hi all... something new, about the FDA and finding a loophole 'to me' to get around their trying to eliminate compounded 'estriol' from the mkt. Just block the importers of the necessary ingredients. 'Purdy' sneaky I'd say. *sigh* Not only 'estriol but I see DHEA too... Dee~ The FDA has banned the importation of DHEA and Estriol into the United States Several of the companies that supply products to compounding pharmacies were notified that the FDA has issued an "Import Alert” thus not allowing DHEA and Estriol into the U.S. This move is yet another effort to restrict healthcare freedom to benefit the makers (Big Pharma) of some synthetic hormones. Concerned citizens need to contact their Senators and Representatives to let them know you are opposed this action.
Guest guest
Isn't DHEA a supplement, not a drug. I wonder why a compounding pharmacy would require a prescription for it. Where did you get the information that FDA has banned it's importation? It is manufactured in the United States by Schering-Plough. hey supposedly regulate drugs, not supplements. FDA did send warning letters to some compounding pharmacies about DHEA but those pharmacies were requiring prescriptions for DHEA. Guest guest
Hey Ora, I may be wrong, but I think there is a pharmaceutical grade of DHEA (??) Only thing that would make sense. I won't get started on my feelings -- because I'd just ramble... Hugs, Chelle
Guest guest
You are probably right but Schering-Plough who manufactures it here is a big pharmaceutical company. However DHEA is banned for importation in to several other countries but I couldn't find anything about it being banned for importation to USA. Maybe it is something new. Guest guest
HI Ora.... Yes DHEA is a supplement 'right now' and still available OTC as far as I know... but it's used often as a sexual conversion steroid.. and converts into mainly testosterone and some estrogen I think 'down the road'.. so they're getting 'gung ho' on it as well (and have been)... For some who are leery about T.? It's a milder way to try it without going to directly using T. (I'm speaking about whole body benefits here not for the vulva) . I used it once and I have to say I really felt good on it and full of energy and zip... (even found myself singing out loud, LOL) EXCEPT that I did get somewhat tender 'boobs'.. but keep in mind I also use the real E & T in fairly high doses, in my daily routine (365) for HRT, and it was just a little too much for 'me' so I quit it.. I tried again a few months later and had the same results with the tenderness, so I've left it alone but I do like it and think it can be a good thing, (in low amts.) esp. for those who are leery of the real prescription hormones. PLUS we definitely lose our DHEA as we age as well. I got that notice in my mail and have since deleted it but I think it was from one of the compounding companies. (not Petes, I'd have remembered) But I can't imagine needing a prescription for it either... but then I haven't looked in a long time to see if it IS still available OTC. I hope it is. Guest guest
Yes it is available. I bought some recently because someone talked me into it and I got the impression that it might be taken off the market soon so bought four bottles. I have taken it a few times but didn't seem to have any reaction to it. Maybe I will start taking it again just to see what if anything it does for me. New project, LOL Ora >HI Ora.... > >Yes DHEA is a supplement 'right now' and still available OTC as far as I know... but it's used often as a sexual conversion steroid.. and converts into mainly testosterone and some estrogen I think 'down the road'.. so they're getting 'gung ho' on it as well (and have been)... Guest guest
I recently had estriol compounded for me using jojoba as the only other ingredient/base. So I wonder if there really is a ban, or maybe I soon won't be able to get it. BTW, it does not burn like estrace, which in my case is caused by 'glycol' excipients. I am able to alternate estrace and compounded estriol, but don't use either one every day. On days I don't use the E's I apply a dab of coconut oil to help moisturize.
