Granted, the reasons this woman's kids are suing her are ridiculous. But, I

must say, sometimes I would love to sue my nada for emotional distress & all

the money I've spent on therapy over the years. Now that seems to me like a

good reason to sue a parent... not because they didn't send you a birthday

check or let you stay out past midnight.

Yeah--from what I gather, the children's lawyer was the woman's ex-husband.

So, basically i think it's the ex-husband who was trying to cause more

emotional hurt to the woman by turning the kids on her---so in this case I

almost wonder if the ex-husband might have been an

abusive/controlling/maniuplative father to the kids, too.

But lol, I lost a couple thousand paying for half the car I had to give back

to my fada. I suppose I could sue him to recover that lost money, but it was

a verbal contract and the courts don't like these cases, so I don't know if

I'd win or not. He said that he and I could share the car and I'd pay half

and all the insurance and gas, and he'd pay half the car payments, and when

it was paid off, it could be mine. Then when he disowned me he wanted me to

take it off his hands or give it back.

I couldn't afford the whole payments so I just parked it in some parking lot

and mailed him the keys.

Anyway, I digress. I would absolutely love to sue my fada, if not for

financial damages (he can pay for my counseling!). I would rather be able to

see my siblings again. Siblings rights would be awesome. Sadly, such things

don't exist :(

Whoa the ex husband is the lawyer???? Sounds like parental alienation

syndrome.

As far as suing my nada, I wouldn't dare because she would put on her victim

pants and paint me the villain - and I've gone the rounds with that before -

she always always always always wins. i don't know why, but she always

does.

You can only sue a person based on the laws at the time in question.

Unfortunately, when most of us were kids, there were very few restrictions for

discipline and even the laws that did exist were vague. Kids now days will be

able to sue their parents when they are adult. I think this is a good thing.

Exactly. This particular lawsuit was obviously frivolous and ridiculous and I

agree with the judge who threw it out, but I really would like to see parents

hauled into court and sued for genuine damages inflicted on their child(ren):

physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and the various forms of neglect)

that result in physical injuries and emotional injuries.

I even think that civil rights should be granted to minor children who require

medical or psychological therapy to recover from the very real and long-term

injuries/ psychological damage received at the hands of unfit, abusive parents.

I believe that minor children should be given the right to legal representation

on their own behalf (as though the child were an adult) and have the right to

bring suit on their own behalf for damages and/or to obtain a " divorce " from

unfit, abusive parents, (emancipation) and the right to determine with their

guardians a more suitable place to live at their parents' expense (such as a

nice boarding school.)

Civil rights for minors, that's my soapbox.

Thanks for the input guys. I just thought it was a very unusual case! I had

NO idea that the father (or is it step father?) was the kids' lawyer. Oh

my... isn't that just convenient?

I'm with Annie on her soapbox hehe. I couldn't agree more.

Holly, I'm so sorry you had to go through that with your fada. What a jerk

>:( And I do agree that there should be sibling rights.

GS - maybe it is a case of parental alienation? I don't know. I only read

the one article and just couldn't believe their reasons for suing their

mother. Holy cow!

pdff - not sure what the laws were when I was a kid. Probably wouldn't

matter. Not saying I would sue my nada, but sometimes it sounds like a

wonderful idea. After all, how much have I spent on therapy? Lost wages?

Hell, even divorce could be tossed in there since I pretty much only got

married to get away from nada. Grrrr.

Just glad to be free from her at this point. Also hoping she and grandnada

have finally given up on trying to track me down.

No, not in a while. About 4 months since grandnada called. Then again,

we've moved but no word from fiance's dad that anyone's called there.

Last time, fiance told her that I don't want any contact with her and to

stop calling. I'd be naive to think they got the hint, but it's been quiet.

(Knock wood)
