Guest guest
Dee, Eventually compounded pharmacy prescriptions will be affected too because of the advances in technology, but with what I saw you sent the other day about certain ingredients not being allowed to come in to the country that could make things even more frustrating for those that need compounded medicines. Guest guest
Dee, She sent it to the pharmacy I told her to send it to: the one I normally use. But I worry about the number of decisions we make now that will be taken away from us which is why I said that. I would rather make the choice myself. Here's another example of what I mean and you just touched on it. I told them I wanted my CT Scan of my sinuses done at a facility of my choice (the one closest to my house instead of having to go downtown). I got told that the place I use for my x-ray procedures (but this was under a different name when this happened which was a long time ago and before I ever went to this doctor at the University) does not accept order sheets from that clinic. I don't see why that should matter where the order sheet comes from as long as the test is ordered by my doctor and I can choose where I want my test done. Because I am not going to have my mom taking me in to downtown just for a test knowing that the traffic is worse during certain parts of the day even before people get off from work. So had to get that straightened out. Finally got it tended to and had my CT Scan done. Well, when I asked this doctor to help with the thyroid issue at least from the point of whether I need an endocrinologist or not (I went this way because I asked her to explain how thyroid can connect to ENT issues) she ordered an ultrasound (should have had this done once before by the doctor I thought was going to be my Primary care physician in 2005 but that's a story for another time). I told them I wanted it at the facility close to my home and I thought it was tended to til I got a call on that Tues (this was about 2 weeks ago) saying I had my ultrasound scheduled for their place on the 4th at 2:30. That made me mad so knew I had to get that straightened out. So contacted the person up there that deals with this stuff and it was straightened out. Some things I don't mind if they make the decision for me but other things like the issue of meds and where I want tests done I have a problem with. And for those things that I don't mind that they make the decision for (such as faxing orders to the imaging places after a test is done) I don't find to be outrageous. And I'm glad that they do fax those for me because in part thanks to my fibro I am now capable of losing things very easily (although later find them). So by them faxing over the orders for tests I won't have to wonder where I put them because they already have them. So I make it a habit now to tell them to fax the orders over for me if it's not their standard. With all my other doctors I can choose where I want to go but with the University because they are used to doing everything from within (Mayo Clinic is the same way-this is where my mom's oncologist is) I have had to stay on top of them to let them know where I want to go. That's why I'm so surprised at how some of our decision making ability is being taken away for the sake of technology. And in the process frustrates me. Here's another example of someone trying to make a decision for us when it comes to testing but shouldn't unless it's an emergency. My mom went to her primary care physician for a check up and so after the doctor saw the records from Mayo Clinic (when all she needed was the path reports not the whole chart practically but that's a story for another time) she decided to step in to a territory that should be left to the discretion of the gyn and the oncologist. The territory she stepped in to was that of doing a pelvic and transvaginal sonogram to screen for ovarian cancer (which is not standard protocol any way) because of the fact that my mom has breast cancer. When mom told me that the doctor did this I hit the ceiling. Well, here was the problem that later occurred from that. The clinic went and scheduled the test for my mom which they shouldn't have been doing to begin with. Their job was to just send over the order and then let mom schedule her own test. Mom said, " I told them it's ok to do this " . No, it's not ok for them to do this. Because what if the date they schedule conflicts with other things. I love the idea of new technology to help in some areas but it sure seems to be creating problems in other areas. Yep, frustrated indeed.
