HELP! If any of you have or have had children with significant attention problems, please help me.We have to gain our son's attention in order to teach him. His attention is so poor, less than 5 seconds at present. WHAT WILL HELP -- Is this diet related? Is it a supplement issue? NO meds have helped, except TENEX, which isn't enough. What part of the brain controls attention? What is he lacking or is it be something that he is overproducing?I am OPEN to all suggestions! We presently do the Specific Carbohydrate, low-oxalate diet. He is taking fish oil as well. Please help...I'm losing HOPE!

For us, DIR/Floortime was really helpful with this as the back- & -forth engagement helped to develop both relatedness and attention. RuthSent from my iPhone

We tried medication and it didn't work either. The one thing that did seem to work was GABA (500mg) and DMAE (250mg) combined. Give one of each in A.M and a second dose at noon. My son's teacher and therapists said they noticed a marked difference in his attention and ability to tranisition once the noon dose was administered. It's not a miracle and there are days when he's really off, but it's much better than it was.

for us our son was like that when we started. it took doing gfcfsf to get his brain where he could function, then DMG made a HUGE leap from a 2 min attention span recorded by this therapist to 45 min in the FIRST DOSE! it was unreal!! it was food science of vermont origonal formula in sublingle tabs. but he couldn't have done that with out DMG. also things like b6 and mag have history to help as well. are you addressing yeast (which by the way SCD still has yeast feeders- honey, fruits, ect) we had to address yeast full on with meds, suppliments, no fruits (fructose) no carbs. so you may need more restrictions, tests like OATS and comp stool tests can help pin point what is off. other things over the years that helped us with attention were, b12 and LDN. what brand of fish oil are you using. many have vit E that is soy based that makes things worse. are you doing SCD with milk? if so I would start with pulling that as well

It will depend upon the child. They are similar but different. I don't think there is any way to know other than trial.Sent from my iPhone

Feingold diet and casein free have been the key for us. It makes the difference

between severe adhd to mild adhd with my son. He goes right back for 24 hours

with any infractions.
