Guest guest
My son is already taking zinc and he also takes MTP which helps get the zinc from his bloodstream into his cells. We have seen chewing in the past and when we increased his zinc, the chewing disappeared. We recently added both magnesium and inositol to his supps. These are a great help for him. However, he has also started chewing like mad! He is mouthing his hands and especially chewing his shirt. Does anyone know if supplementing magnesium or inositol can lower zinc or reduce it's ability to be absorbed or something? The last four or five days I have increased his zinc and it has not made a difference yet. He doesn't have any other yeast symptoms, so I don't suspect yeast. The only other thing I can think of is we took him off mb12 a while ago. When he originally started the shots, his mouthing increased initially and then went away. I am wondering if he is " losing sensation " in his mouth again now that he has been off mb12 awhile. Any thoughts? Thanks, Cathy
Guest guest
HI Cathy,We are currently having problems with increased chewing and mouthing too but it started immediately after we increased my daughter's zinc. She is really low in zinc (and has higher copper). I have decided to bring it back down. I and our dr. arent sure why she is doing this but we've just learned she is iodine deficient and we are also exploring adrenal issues. I am wondering if the added zinc made her dump alot of copper into her system and this affected her thyroid/adrenals??...maybe adding mag and insitol started a detox too for your son??....if anyone has any thoughts please let us know! oh, and I did read somewhere that adrenal insufficiency can make the tongue or mouth feel different....of course i didnt save it in my files!Thank you!! Guest guest
Hi CathyI use inosotol hexaphosphate for my son from time to time and it gives him loose stools. If yours is having stool issues with inositol, he may not be absorbing zinc the way he should. Just a thought.Take care Ayse
Guest guest
Hmmm…that is interesting. I just read this article yesterday which might be of interest to you: http://www.enzymestuff.com/rtMTpromoter.htm My son is actually on MTP which is how I ended up reading this article in my research. He has been on zinc for a very long time. You seem to be doing the right thing by backing off and taking it low and slow. My son was also iodine deficient and Iodoral has been a huge help for him. My son actually smells like metal on the back of his neck whenever he is chelating (we have chelated many times with DMSA) and when we put him on the Iodoral, he started smelling like metal every night. I skipped the Iodoral one day and he didn‘t smell that night. He continued to dump metal just from adding the Iodoral for at least three months. He has stayed on the Iodoral, but doesn’t smell like metal anymore. Guest guest
I am just starting to really research ammonia issues. It is difficult to find good information. I know Cheryl (the moderator of this list) uses yucca also. Ayse’s advice is what I have found also. My doctor also suggested Alpha Ketaglutaric Acid for helping reduce ammonia. We have found this helpful so far. I just ordered Dr. Amy Yasko’s book/workbook/DVD set and started watching the DVD last night (it is four hours long.) Oh.My.Word. So far, it makes so much sense for my son. She does discuss the issue of glutamate being a problem for some of our kids and that would mean we should avoid the alpha ketaglutaric acid, but I may be out of town tomorrow, so I am not going to switch to Yucca instead of AKG today. I will probably do that Monday. I don’t want him aggressive and tantruming for his dad if I am gone. Anyway, in addition to Yucca and activated charcoal (and magnesium citrate), I have also heard limiting ammonia-producing protein sources like meat can help. Guest guest
I do not think Yucca is sulphur herb because it is not listed under sulphur containing supplements in the book (Pathway to Recovery). Don't know about the phenol part. You can order CBS or Ammonia RNA from Yasko's site. She says " before using check turine levels on UAA " . If you have a CBS mutation you should definitely control ammonia. Limit protein intake, limit taurine, limit B6(or P5P), limit sulphur. If you do not close the CBS gate all the nutritional supports you take will go down CBS gate and depletes the rest of the cycle. Oh! by the way charcoal can be used 1-2 times a week. You do not want to do it daily. Do it once a week. Based on the behaviors or testing you can go up to 2 times a week. Hope this helps. Ayse Great, many thanks! Guest guest
Wow, great info! To find out about the CBS mutation, do i need to do all the Yasko testing or is this something we can do easily through my local DAN? I am interested in doing Yasko but was planning to start AC chelation first or is there a strong reason we should do Yasko before AC chelation? Guest guest
Yucca is high oxalate. One of her supps, the CBS NOS has yucca in it, and other good stuff, so it might be easier to use that than to buy a bunch of separate things. It's as an extract in her compound so maybelower oxalate than dried herbal yucca? We have CBS mutations here but also extremely low B6 and a son with seizures. So I don't limit sulfur supps. My son is doing fabulously on sulfur supps, my daughter is having issues. However her OAT is saying yeast is the problem... I think we go a blood ammonia drawn recently.... waiting on results. On the yucca, do you know if it is a phenol or sulfur herb? Can I trial myself the cbs or ammonia rna or do I need to conatct her? We have been doing charcoal but maybe need to do it more regularly! Many thanks-- Sent from my Palm Pre 2 activated charcoal before bed followed by enough mg citrate to produce bowel movement in 8-12 hrs. Also can use herb Yucca with high protein meals. Guest guest
With Yasko, you can not just look for a single mutation. You have to do Nutrogenomics testing. You can probably do it elswhere. Yasko is very very costly and hard to follow. Tons and tons of supplements. I am loosing my interest on her protocol, not very helpful. I am currently using the genetic test results to make better supplement choices for my son. I do not do AC chelation. I am doing natural chelation to be on the safe side. Take care Ayse Wow, great info! To find out about the CBS mutation, do i need to do all the Yasko testing or is this something we can do easily through my local DAN? I am interested in doing Yasko but was planning to start AC chelation first or is there a strong reason we should do Yasko before AC chelation? Guest guest
I haven't been able to find other labs to test SNPs like Yasko, that offer to the general pubic. You can do 23andme.com but you have to know what you are looking for.Her compounds combine many of the supps and she has stages in which to add in stuff, so you don't really do everything all at once, you work up to it.The 500$ test incudes 4 RNA drop bottles.... so there is " value added. Guest guest
I am using NDF by Bioray. My son was very toxic (lead) and I heard so many good things about this supplement. I am comfortable using this because it is all natural and have enormous binding capacity. We did not work up to the suggested dosage yet. Also have MTHFR A1298C mutation making detox harder.
