Guest guest
Earlier this evening, I sent out an email in error. I have recalled that message and would like to let everyone know that I support the amendment and here is why: I understand that there is a lot of controversy surrounding this issue, but it is very clear to me why we should remove mercury or mercury preservatives from vaccines. Mercury is a toxin, and I don't need a study to tell me that. If a child goes to school and has a mercury thermometer and it breaks, they close the school down and call in the haz mat team. They say that the mercury in vaccines is ethyl mercury and not methyl mercury, so it is safe. I am not a scientist, but common sense tells me that mercury is mercury. Since mercury is not necessary in vaccines and non-mercury vaccines exist and others can be made with non-poisonous preservatives, and since many new studies show the correlation of mercury and brain damage it only makes sense to remove it. Furthermore, the FDA recommended removal in 1999 and pharmaceutical manufacturers have resisted. There is no risk that there will be a shortage of the vaccines, as the critics say, because there is language that allows the governor to purchase vaccines with the mercury preservative in an emergency. Contact Senators and ask them to support Senator 's amendment to SB 1736 and also contact House members and ask them to support HB 119. It requires the state to purchase mercury free vaccines. Again, if there is a shortage of mercury free vaccines, the Governor can authorize purchase of mercury containing vaccines, (if necessary) in an emergency. This coincides with the Governor's Task Force on Autism Spectrum Disorders 2009 report - Recommendation #19: Explore the prohibition of the purchase and administration of all mercury-containing (e.g., thimerosal) vaccines in the State of Florida.
