Guest guest
So, my useless gyno here in NYC neglected to call or send me my culture test results. I saw her last Thursday, and she said to call on Monday. I forgot and called the following Thursday and the front desk said they " lost " the results. Lost? I was persistant and suddenly they found them and faxed them directly to me. Guess what - first time ever POSITIVE for yeast infection. When did she intend on sharing those results with me? All she told me to do was put A&D ointment on the area. I am BEYOND ANGRY. My gyno in person said it was a chemical burn and that discharge was normal. Dr. Goldstein on the phone said ignore your gyno, it's a yeast and take Diflucan. He was right. I took Diflucan 3 times over 6 days - every other day and now while I am still irritated, no where near what I was going through last week. Those of us with V problems take longer I think to heal from simple things like a yeast infection. My point is, stay on top of your health results because your doctors cannot be counted on to do so. I saw Dr. G today in his NYC office for a check-up and he said i am 75% better then I was just 2 months ago - both in skin condition and pelvic floor dysfunction. While I only feel 25% better, he said clincially, I am 75% better. On the road to recovery. -Emma > > > > HI Emma sure sounds like Yeast to me too hon.. > > 'I'd' stay away from the E & T for now too hon till you get that cleared up, as they sure can co-exist and don't forget yeast can be 'topical' and doesn't have to come from inside the vaginal canal. Guest guest
OH Emma.... you have every right to be P.O'd and Angry! arghhhhh the incompetence I see around me is everywhere it seems but of all places it's even worse in a physicians office. *sigh* Well glad Goldstein was right and I thought so too from your description but what a shame to have the test and they 'lose' it! That really is ridiculous. *sigh*Funny how quick they found it though eh? You said a mouthful when you said; "My point is, stay on top of your health results because your doctors cannot be counted on to do so." ABSOLUTELY SO.. I'm glad to hear that clinically you're doing better but sure wish you 'felt' better . The only other suggestion I might make and it often goes along with yeast infections is the doggone left over inflammation that continues even if the yeast is gone.. and that's to try an oral antihistamine . It might help... It should. I'd also suggest the 'topical' Benedryl 'gel'... but not if you're still really tender and inflammed hon. As it might sting on excoriated tissue but it's a good antihistamine to use topically too. Hang in there... and glad at least that infection is clearing up for you, TG for that! Better days ahead! Guest guest
Hi, I feel rather bruised about this issue. About a month ago I had been given antibiotics for a urinary tract infection as well as antibiotics to start on in case that was the proper medication. As time went on the infection didn't clear so a week later I called and said so. When the doc called back I was told that it had been the wrong kind of medication for that particular bacteria. If I hadn't called I may have been in serious trouble (still may be in serious trouble). Since I have two complete knee joint replacements I am always in danger of having infections in the knees which is a serious complication I won't go into but it can be life threating in addition to many months sometimes in hospital for new replacement surgery and constant IV antibiotics. Put all this together with the stronger bacteria which antibiotics don't seem to be able to kill these days, the whole thing is a fiasco. If they lose the lab report all they have to do is call the lab for a new report. So much dishonesty abounds these days. Always make sure you know when the lab report will be back and always call to find out. > You said a mouthful when you said; " My point is, > stay on top of your health results because your > doctors cannot be counted on to do so. " ABSOLUTELY > SO.. > good antihistamine to use topically too. I guess my opinion would be to not ever use topical antihistamine on a vulvar problem. In fact the less you put on it the better. The oral antihistamine is a good idea. Arline ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Guest guest
My doctor got tired of me always asking him for a copy of the lab report and now he has the lab send me a copy when they send his. In my opinion, I paid for it why shouldn't I get a copy. Guest guest
Can't say I agree with you there Ar... about not using a topical antihistamine, they can work wonders as they reduce inflammation and itch...(histamine from Mast cells is the 'cause' of that discomfort in the first place) so I'd rather that than a systemic if it helps. (instead of that dry cotton mouth and sleepiness etc. with a systemic one) Maybe you can explain why you don't think so? Guess I'm confused on that one. Oh just had a thought.. since you were originally talking about an infection and using an antibiotic.. is that why? On the other hand it's not an antibiotic but an antihistamine so guess I'm still confused. : ( Although, never mind.... (brain fog today) *grin* unless it would irritate if that skin is still fairly raw... that I can see. *smile*) but you said 'not ever'. Ummmmm oh well. So sorry to hear they had you on the wrong one (antibiotic) Jeeze AR... I definitely can see your concern with those knee replacements and how risky that can be for you. When Jack had his defibrillator put into his chest (when he nearly died, did for 8 minutes) and *before I knew him* it got horribly infected, bad bad news.. and had to be taken out and put in the other side and he was on the most potent anti bacterial medication out there at the time... PLUS get this.. didn't they put the damn thing in backwards on top of it. *ARGhhhhhh ... Then he gets an attorney and he lands in jail as one of the most corrupt ones in town.. and so it goes. Guest guest
Hi Dee, I say no topical antihistamines because when I have a yeast infection my skin is irritated, inflammed, sore, etc., and not just itching. So, to put much of anything there is a real no no. I supposed if one only has itching it might be different but even so, putting it on the delicate vulvar skin doesn't sound inviting to me. ) Arline ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
