Guest guest
Hi everyone, As whoever has been following the thread about my son going through abdominal pain and tantrums, we realized that some of his symptoms are related to acid reflux which he had as a baby and recently he started having hiccups also. We noticed that most of his symptoms started when he started swallowing huge capsules(which we were celebrating) but most of the time his pain starts after swallowing those capsules. I discussed with his dan doctor and we are suspecting reflux alongwith other microbial overgrowth. Now I have to start antireflux therapy but wanted to know if any of you know any negatives on either pepcid or proton pump inhibitors like nexium, protonix or aciphex. I personally do not want to use proton pump inhibitors as even though they really work, they are related to bacterial overgrowth. Channa suggested baking soda to reduce acidity which I am going to try first. Just wanted to see what was the experience of other parents like. Today, I gave him activated charcoal which really calmed him down and he is not even craving for carbs at this time and he hasn't had too much to eat today. He will also get his epsom salt bath after the nystatin. Thanks is

Guest guest
Channa, its a day full of action for me. I had activated charcoal, epsom salt and baking soda planned for today. We are about to give him a bath which is going to be a big struggle as he hates it. I am going to try it within one hour of nystatin. Then tonight I will give him baking soda. When do you give benadryl? Does it have to be at the same time as baking soda? I hope I can avoid pepcid as again it will have a lot of unnecessary ingredients. Atleast I have the dye free benadryl. Guest guest
is, if the bath is unsuccessful, try foot baths. Just as effective. -Tammy To: mb12valtrex Sent: Saturday, December 3, 2011 2:04 PM Subject: Re: pepcid vs protonix or nexium Channa, its a day full of action for me. Guest guest
is,Just noticed your post and wanted to share an accidental discovery.A while ago I started giving my son Holy Basil to help reduce his cortisol levels. As always, I also took the Holy Basil to see what effect it may have on him. I have a history of really bad reflux, the really bad kind that makes you feel like you can't breathe and your innards are on fire. When I took the Holy Basil (New Chapters organic), the heartburn and reflux went away. I was truly amazed at how well it worked. You may want to consider this because it is an adaptogen and helps on many fronts. I should also mention it has had a lasting effect. I rarely get reflux anymore and when I do it only takes 1 holy basil gel cap to deal with it.Hope you find this information useful. im glad you will try the bakin soda first, it is my belief that it will work as good as any reflux drugs! maybe im getting over zealous in my opinion..so please let me know if i turn out to be wrong.. channa To: mb12valtrex Sent: Saturday, December 3, 2011 1:41 PMSubject: pepcid vs protonix or nexium Hi everyone,As whoever has been following the thread about my son going through abdominal pain and tantrums, we realized that some of his symptoms are related to acid reflux which he had as a baby and recently he started having hiccups also. Guest guest
or..maybe try melting the epsom salt in some oil that your son isnt allergic to...olive oil maybe and rub it on him? alexis..dont do to much at once...if the charcoal is helping then you can do that and the epsom foot bath for a couple days...the bakin soda/benedryl was used when my son was in severe gastro pain and usually I gave before bed as i found that when it worked best...dont try and do everythnig at once or you wont be able to tell as much what did what.. Guest guest
We had increase in reflux and lots of burping/belching on Neuroprotek, were told to try keeping the bottle in the freezer and give caps straight out of freezer, and so far it has worked well! Having said that the reflux med is really good for our son's 'autism' in general, including better attention and focusing, calmer etc. And h2 antihistamines (famotidine-pepcid, and ranitidine etc) have synergetic effects with h1 antihistamines, so in 'allergic' kids it might be worth trying both, esp if acid reflux present. Pepcid and other h2 blockers can increase allergic reaction if used on their own, so better avoided other than very short-term, unless giving one of the h1 blockers alongside. btw famotidine (the one in pepcid) has been small-trialled in autism, with observed improvements in around half of the children studied. Guest guest
I use HCL, link below, for both of my sons, one on the spectrum, both with reflux. I was able to get them both off of ppi's with this.
