That really is interesting Kristy – you are unusual. I am down

now to 1800 mg Neurontin (I was at 3600). I see no difference in pain either

way. I still am taking the same amount of opiods, which take the edge off, but

that is about all. If I take enough of them to really help, they put me to

sleep – sometimes for up to eight hours, over and above my usual sleep at

night. I have not found anything that really helps.

nne,

Very interesting. I have had benefit from the opioids. I guess

that makes me different from some of the others who have tried

medicines usually used for neuropathic type pain. I took

Neurontin for a different nerve issue back in the 1990s and I

found that it didn't help me as long as I took the medicine by

itself. I get better results with the opioids.

Kristy :)

nne,

I found out from someone else several years ago that Neurontin

often works better in combination with something else. Of

course I don't know how right she is but it sure made some sense

because when I did start out on the Neurontin for the other

nerve issue I was also given an anti-inflammatory to take along

with it.

It must be due to the fact that my pain threshold is so messed

up in general which may explain why the opioids are more helpful

to me.

Because even when I had my surgery in 2006 I didn't have any

effects like drowsiness from the Morphine and the other stuff

(and yes they all helped my pain) like I hear some others say.

I'm amazed at how different we all are.

Kristy :)

Ladies, When I was really burning, my pain Dr. prescribed neurontin and I

took 3600mgs, which helped 40%, along w/ elavil, 125mgs, and here is the

kicker, effexor XR and I believe I gradually went up to the max. (not

sure if that was 150 or 175 mgs. Also, vicodin helped to tame down

the burning too. As of today, I am taking 50mgs elavil, 800 mgs

neurontin, vicodin only as needed (1-2pills/week) and NO effexor XR.

I tolerated all these drugs as long as I needed to settle down the

'horrific' burning, knowing in the back of my mind that someday I could

and would ween down and even totally off some meds.

Just my experience over the years.
