Guest guest
Dee, I use to try and describe it to people who asked – that was like a toothache, or an exposed nerve if you did not have novicaine when you were haveing a tooth filled. It is just SO hard to describe … Also, EMG tests can be given for all nerves, but it is rare for the pudendal nerve. The woman who did my test went to France to learn how to do the testing and operate the machine. She brought back the computer that did the test (which was French), and she was very protective of it as it was the only one. Also not all doctors who operate on the pudendal nerve believe in the EMG test. Dr. Conway does, as he uses it for nerve conduction testing before and during surgery. While he operates he keeps testing the conduction of the nerve - as he frees the nerve, the numbers go lower. The idea is to get the numbers to go very low which shows the nerve is moving again. I forget exactly, I would have to look it up, but I was entrapped on both sides, and my numbers were in the 7’s and 9’s and he was able to bring them down to the 2’s and 3’s. I have spoken to women who had numbers in the teens. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of Dee Troll Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 12:24 PM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: Re: nature of pain HI C... Hon I honestly don't know about the dysfunction of a nerve cell without the muscles pressing on it. I'm thinking for instance if the myelin sheath surrounding each nerve (the insulating factor) is disrupted or damaged, that happens I think without muscles being involved? As that comes with certain diseases that can strip that away. For instance like with MS or Guilliane Barr disease. Or how about a bad toothache? That exquisite raw pain when a nerve is hit.. that's not the muscles is it?.. Or how about a 'pinched' nerve? maybe it's not necessarily caused by muscles but when it's damaged the muscles can't work. So it's sort of vice versa? or maybe works both ways? Thinking about it backwards, all muscular movement involves the action of muscles and nerves and needs that electrical current to work, (as when I lost that ability with Bells Palsy) the nerve was 'pinched' and the facial muscles went dead and unable to function. I suppose it all ties in together. Told you I didn't know. *grin*. As far as the EMG (Electromyography) for nerve conduction? I would think it can be tested just about everywhere, but again just a guess. I had it done for bad shoulder nerve pain. Dee~ ----- Original Message ----- From: Carolyn52192@... Can one have dyfunction of a nerve cell, without the pelvic muscles pressing on the nerve? Not necessarily the pudendal nerve, just some of the other nerves there. Also, is the pudendal nerve the only nerve they can test with emg? C Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. Guest guest
I agree nne about pain... *sigh*.... there are so many different ways to describe it and no one answer. I saw a list once and bet it had 20 different adverbs of descriptions. I sure didn't mean to put a name to Carolyns... just that if something is going to cause me 'more' pain 'I' sure ain't gonna do it. I've had that happen with physical therapy for my shoulder, I did it once and never again where I knew it was ripping things even worse.. and I got better without it. It all just depends.
