Guest guest
TODAY is my second year anniversary from the day I woke up with a slight unusual pain in the perineum area on the left side of my upper thigh. What a memorable two years it has been. The reason Botox sometimes does not work, is that it is not given in the right area, nor is given at the right depth, (the needle needs to be longer), nor is enough given. The women that I have spoke to that it has worked perfectly, they used two vials of Botox with 12 injections given in each butt (or area near the perineum). One injection is just not going to do it. However, I certainly do not guarantee anything; this is just what information I have gotten in my own personal survey. And there is a discussion whether it should be done with or without X-ray guidance. And also, the experience of the doctor. All of these things tie into it. And I am sure there are people out there that have gotten relief from just one injection. I only took my own personal survey from approx 20 women I talked to. When I went to PT on Wednesday – in great pain, I might add, she spent a long time, both internally and externally locating the exact spots where she felt it was the tightest and most painful – although she could not find exact trigger spots, just general areas. Anyway, she wrote a letter to my pain management doctor on where she felt I should have injections (knowing that I was going to see him the next day). So yesterday, when I went to see him, he agreed completely with Raquel, and explained to me where the areas are located and that there is a “bursa” located in one spot, and also in the perineum area. We didn’t use X-ray, and he just used a numbing agent and a steroid, and using a large curved needle, found the general area, and by moving the needle around internally until he I told him that was the worse “spot”, he then injected the medicine. Before the procedure, he had given me a Percocet and a Valium, as the procedure because of pushing the needle around in an already painful area, is very uncomfortable. He also gave me a prescription for valium suppositories. I was so in so much pain before going yesterday, that my husband could barely get me in the car. I had already taken a muscle relaxer to sleep on the trip up to NH, as we are 90 minutes away. I have a special bed made out of memory foam made up in the back seat of the car that is wonderful. My husband made this for me when I first couldn’t sit any ware and had to lie down all the time. After the injections, I signed the papers to send to my insurance company for authorization to get the Botox. I am happy to say today, I feel the least pain that I have had in at least a year. So I am so hoping that these injections hold for a while. I have had some before, not in those exact spots that did not help at all. So I am very hopeful. In addition, last month went I went to my new vulvar specialist, Dr. Lori Boardman in RI; she gave six injections around the edge of the vagina. I am to have six more next week. They have held very well, I have less vaginal pain in a long time, and I also use a steroid cream – Clobetasol three times a week. I am definitely going to get the Botox, even if I have to fight my insurance company to get it. It is obvious that my pudendal nerve is no longer compressed – my PT can press on it in several places with no pain. SO the surgery was SUCCESSFUL! I just have to get rid of all the pain in my vaginal area and in my butt, so I can sit again. I am determined to do it, as I am not going to spend the rest of my life like this. nne
Guest guest
WOW nne, I am so happy to hear the results of your injections (not sure what that was as I get confused) *grin* but I'm assuming that was 'not' the Botox right? Perhaps steroids? and you are going to go for the Botox. But whatever, I'm just glad it's helping and that your surgery was successful and what's going on now has nothing to with that. Just to hear you say you've some relief and haven't felt this good in a long time means SO much. *whew*... Bless your heart with all you've gone thru hon.... and I loved your closing line... I am determined to do it, as I am not going to spend the rest of my life like this. AMEN to that one..and if anyone can do it hon it'll be you. YOU GO GIRLFRIEND. Thanks for your update, what a journey indeed. Big big ((hugs)) Dee ~
