Guest guest
I'm seeing a urologist for the first time and don't what to expect. If anyone has been to a urologist for IC and vestibulitis can you tell me what they usually do on a first visit? I am scared the doctor is going to do something to cause me severe pain! Guest guest
hi there, I go to an office that specializes in uro-gynecology, so they actually do a gyn and urological exam together. I have IC and VVS. When I get an exam they usually do the q-tip test first to test my pain level externally, and then a quick internal that includes feeling all of my pelvic muscles, especially the top wall where the bladder is to feel for tenderness (characteristic of IC). My doc is very quick so to cause me the least pain possible - maybe you could mention this to yours so that he/she doesn't linger? Also, make sure to ask for the small speculum, there are different sizes. Other than the actual physical exam, my doc also always makes me pee and then does a bladder scam (external ultrasound machine) to see if I'm retaining water, which I always am. Have you actually been diagnosed with IC? (via cystoscopy and hydrodistension).good luck!!!!nicoleTo: VulvarDisorders From: lulubuns@...Date: Mon, 5 May 2008 01:18:13 +0000Subject: urologist-what to expect? Guest guest
Thanks! That does sound extremely painful, the last time I had the Q-tip test I was in agony for three days afterwards. I can't imagine a doctor doing any kind of internal exam, I don't know how I'll bear it. I haven't been diagnosed with IC via the cystoscopy and hydrodistension, just by the symptoms. I really don't want to have these procedures done, it sounds so painful. > > > hi there, I go to an office that specializes in uro-gynecology, so they actually do a gyn and urological exam together. Guest guest
Do you have any Lidocaine gel that you can use before the exam. You can even put that inside the vagina a little ways, and all around the outside. Also, do you have a Valium or a muscle relaxer – that can help you get through the exam. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of lulubuns Sent: Monday, May 05, 2008 1:44 AM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: Re: urologist-what to expect? Guest guest
I was going to suggest the same thing.....maybe a muscle relaxer or a numbing gel to help you get through it. If it's really bad, maybe they can just do the bladder scan which is non-invasive to at least get a preliminary idea of what's going on. I'm sorry you're in so much pain! I know the feeling!nicoleTo: VulvarDisorders From: millburytimes@...Date: Mon, 5 May 2008 01:45:38 -0400Subject: RE: urologist-what to expect? Guest guest
Thanks, I don't have lidocaine (I'm allergic to it) but I do have anti-anxiety medication. I will take that before the dr. visit and then I will take Vicodin after the dr. visit. > > > > > > hi there, I go to an office that specializes in uro-gynecology, so > they actually do a gyn and urological exam together.
