Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am new to the list. My nephew who is almost 3 was recently diagnosed with autism. Am trying to find an ABA or floor time specialist (reasonably priced) to work with the mom and teach her how to work with her son at home aside from the therapy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They live in Coconut Creek. Any other resources that have been helpful to others would also be much appreciated. Thanks, Heidi

Guest guest
Try going to a local high school and tapping into their Honor Society kids. I hired two high school girls, took them to be trained for a weekend and videotaped their sessions with my son. (I corrected them when necessary). I also had the discrete trials already prepared for them each day, in drawers which I had set up in my son's closet (which I converted into more of an ABA closet than a clothing closet). My son did really great with them and I paid a professional $50 once a month to come out and oversee the program and make suggestions for new trials when ones had been mastered. It worked out beautifully for me and the costs were reasonable (I think I paid the high school girls $6 or $7 an hour). It turned out that they even lived in my development so they didn't have far to go to get to work. You can also try posting the job opportunities at the student union at Nova or FIU or FAU. Good Luck. Robin Hi Everyone, I am new to the list. My nephew who is almost 3 was recently diagnosed with autism. Guest guest
Heidi, We did floortime therapy when my son was first diagnosed, and we did not notice any improvements. However, we tried it again years later, after several years of ABA, and found that socialization and other related skills did seem to improve.
