<I am wondering however, what you are referring to as IC.Thanks Kirsty>

HI Kirsty... Hon in case no one's answered you, I C stands for Interstitial Cystitis..

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a bladder problem that causes severe discomfort in approximately 500,000 Americans. On average, they say people see five doctors before they find one who is able to make the diagnosis. IC is characterized by severe urinary urgency, frequency, burning, and pain. It can be quite painful.

Here's a little clip hon.

Regular cystitis and interstitial cystitis ?

Q.''Women seem to have a little trouble distinguishing between cystitis and interstitial cystitis. Could you please tell us the definition of each and how they differ?''

A. Dr. Larrian Gillespie''Interstitial cystitis is typified by burning, cramping, pressure BEFORE and AFTER you urinate, that is usually RELIEVED by urination, while cystitis is the same thing WHEN you urinate.

The kicker is....interstitial cystitis(IC) is not due to bacteria causing an infection, unlike cystitis is, but is a complex syndrome that boils down to "how many ways can you deprive the bladder tissue of oxygen by altering blood flow."...and there are lots of ways.

Endometriosis is unsuspected in about 30% of women with this condition, and lower back problems account for another 15%. Hormone problems, such as unsuspected early menopause, thyroid problems also enter into this picture. The poor bladder is merely the messenger for a problem occurring elsewhere in the body.........''

Dr.L.Gillespie is someone I really like for her indepth information on Hormones (and usually agree with) *smile* but she's also written a book for IC too called ''You Don't Have to Live With Cystitis.''

Hope that helps a little hon.

Dee
