Guest guest
No one has told me this recently, but over the years I have heard mention of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a true diagnosis. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of lulubuns Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2008 4:35 PM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: impaired immune system Has anyone else been told by doctors that they have an impaired immune system? The nutritionist I'm seeing thinks all of my problems were caused by an impaired immune system from malnutrition/ nutritional deficiency. This makes sense to me, since my body is so weak it can't heal itself or fight off infection. I am trying to recover from a lifetime of anorexia. Many doctors tell me it's my own fault that I have IC, VVS, and chronic vaginal infection.
Guest guest
I would say it is their fault as they are not doing their jobs and finding out about the causes of Anorexia and the rest of it. Personally I have long thought that Anorexia is not psychological but that there is a chronic disease that has something to do with malabsorption, the gut, and perhaps neurological factors. But who am I but the cat's mother. Believe who you choose. (I am half joking but it isn't your fault except your choice of docs perhaps). You may want to read the following article about Celiac Disease (gluten sensitivity and Anorexia). http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/112629331/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0 Hang in there. Guest guest
Thanks Lindsey it's pretty horrible to have so many things wrong with me all at once AND have doctors telling me it's my fault instead of helping me. I will try to " hang in there " but it is too much for one person to handle (VV, IC, nonstop vaginal infection, chronic depression, post traumatic stress disorder, anorexia). Why does life suck so much, at least I am no alone and other women are going through this stuff too. > > Laurie, > That's awful! Anorexia is a disease just like cancer is a disease. It's not your " fault. " YEESH! Plenty of women WITHOUT anorexia have IC, vulvodynia, etc. Don't let that get you down. You will find the answer to this and get through it. Obviuosly good nutrition helps, as does exercise, a sense of humor, etc. Hang in there. > Lindsey > > > --------------------------------- > Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
So what did Dr. Ledger say you were supposed to do to fix this? BlueeberriGet trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food.
Guest guest
This is interesting. I had the immune system testing done by Dr. Ledger a few years ago and I was really shocked that I was negative on all his tests because what he described sounded exactly like me. My understanding was that the immune system problem he's looking at is not underactive, but more hyperactive. Your immune system turns on to fight infection or illness, then has trouble turning off when it's time to settle down. I had chronic fatigue for 3 years in the 90's, then vv starting in 2001. And I had an eating disorder as a teen. So, like I said, I thought hyperactive immune system made sense in my case (my onset for vv was repeated infections). But I was negative on all his tests. > > Yes! I to have been told this from a test performed from Dr. Ledger in NYC. He'd told me that I have a low MBL which is Manase Binding Lectin. And in a nut shell, it means that it makes it harder to fight off infection. I too have had the same thoughts you are asking yourself. I have VV for the past almost 5 years. I have never had any eating disorder, but sensitive to common cold and sinus infections. > Tina M. > impaired immune system > > > Has anyone else been told by doctors that they have an impaired immune > system? Guest guest
I would love to hear more about Ledger's tests and therapies. I DEFINITELY have an impaired immune system (endometriosis, hypothyroid, insulin resistance, gluten intolerance, massive allergies, a history of anorexia, and both parents with autoimmune disease). My vv also began with chronic vaginal infections. Is there anything we can do if we have the genetic abnormality?? Guest guest
The sad thing is nothing really from what I am gathering. I have asked him this and just keeps telling me what it is. Also about 10% of the pop. has it....... and nobody seems to be all that worried about it and some Doctors don't even know what MBL means..... Tina. Guest guest
Glomer, Gluten Intolerance is an autoimmune disease which causes the body to attack the parts of the body where the antibodies are formed to fight the gluten it sees as toxic. If this is on the thyroid, the thyroid can be damaged, if on parts that keep the pancreas functioning (like being unable to digest fat which is a cause of diabetes), one will perhaps have diabetes. Many have said that anorexia is often a result of gluten sensitivity as they also say about allergies. Gluten sensitivity causes other autoimmune diseases (so they say). Your immune system seems to be functioning so well it is destroying your body. It doesn't seem to be impaired as I understand it. Gluten is possibly the cause of it all.
