Guest guest
Hello,My name is Alina and here is my story.I had an allergic vulvitis last year that was treated with cortisone cream, but I was left burning on the top ofmy vulva and itching on my right labia. I calmed that down with some plant gel. Then last December I got a yeast infection and I was told to use Nizoral cream for itching. The problem is I applied it on the labia majora for two weeks and it burned my tissue. I went to many doctors because the damage was not really visible, but I was burning and in pain where I had applied it.Then I applied cortizone cream and was give some estrogen vaginal pessaries that burned like hell and I had to stop using them. Then I went to another derm and he said I had contact dermatitis from all the creams and prescribed another cortizone cream that I applied for three weeks and this one really burned my tissues. I was all red and inflamed and burning even more. I went back and he claimed I had nothing serious and sent me home and said I should heal by myself in 3 months. Well 3 months are gone, the tissue looks much better, the burning is pretty much gone, but I am still in pain, I cannot stand underwear, my pubes sting, menstrual pads chafe, sometimes my discharge stings.Even a little rubbing means pain and stinging and I get red.I went back to this derm and now he said that I still have an irritation and asked me why I did not seek medical help. He prescribed a nappy rash cream for 1 month and I have to go back for followup. The gynecologist cannot see any irritation and thinks I have vulvodynia and keeps sending me to the shrink to sort my "issues" because he thinks they are triggered by some psychological trauma.I am going to another derm on Tuesday, but I am at a loss here. How do I repair those damaged tissues? The thing is, in the morning they look really good but are still painful. After using the towel or even rubbing with underwear they turn red and sting.I am now trying cautiously the nappy rash cream on one corner of the labia majora and on the other one the Cicalfate repair cream from Avene.I also have emu oil, that soothed me last night when I was stinging kinda bad.My mom also thinks my vulva skin looks normal, but I know how it used to look, and it is not normal. If you have any suggestions, I would sure like to hear them. Thanks a lot,Alina Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Alina, this sounds similar to my story, regarding allergic reactions to everything. I was allergic to antifungal creams, bacterial vaginosis creams, cortisone creams, and all the alternative medicine stuff (like vaginal acidophilus, boric acid etc.). Basically I was one big allergic mess all swollen up and burning for 7 months. I believe this is what caused my vulvar vestibulitis. All I can say is: don't use anything on the tissue. Since you are allergic to everything all the creams will just make it worse. I cannot use any topical medicine. Underwear is very irritating, I do not wear underwear (except when I have my period, then I have to suffer through the chafing). Also do not rub yourself dry after showering, either air dry or use a hair dryer set on low and hold it far away (this is what I do). That is all I can suggest for now, please try not to put anything on the skin. If you think it's vulvodynia you need to find a doctor who specializes in it, most gynecologists don't know anything about it! I hope you feel better. > > Hello, > > My name is Alina and here is my story. > I had an allergic vulvitis last year that was treated with cortisone cream, but I was left burning on the top of > my vulva and itching on my right labia. Guest guest
I told me gynecologist that my issues started after using over-the- counter yeast medication. That, with the fact that I was dry due to lack of hormones fried the nerves in that area. He said that he believes that my theory is correct. That area has to heal! I use specially compounded creams that do not irritate. You also should get to a vulvar specialist because the quicker you do something about this the more likely you are to be totally healed. That is what Dr. told me. Guest guest
Diane, what kind of creams do you use now to heal the tissue? I have healed somewhat (I was a raw mess), but there is still irritation that prevents me from wearing underwear or pants. The gynecologist (I had to go to another country -- I live in Eastern Europe-- for this one, he's supposed to be a specialist) said he cannot see any irritation, but the derm says he can see it and prescribed nappy rash cream. Thanks. > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > My name is Alina and here is my story. > > > I had an allergic vulvitis last year that was treated with > cortisone > > cream, but I was left burning on the top of > > > my vulva and itching on my right labia. Guest guest
Lulubuns, the area has healed partly after it's been a raw mess. Now I can tolerate nappy rash creams, emu oil. In the morning my skin looks really good, but then with friction it gets irritated. The derm has prescribed nappy rash cream for a month. It has some antiinflammatory extract from licorice root and an antibacterial. It also has parabens. I will see a second derm on Tuesday and ask about compounding. Guest guest
I used estrace cream-just a few times a week, a tiny dab and then I worked up to daily. I also use these: www.gladrags.com during my period-much less irritating than conventional products. Of course, PT has helped me a ton...the other thing that has helped a lot is coconut oil. Guest guest
Lindsey, Is your problem in the hairy areas (labia majora)? Mine is there because of steroid overuse. Thanks, Alina > > I used estrace cream-just a few times a week, a tiny dab and then I worked up to daily. Guest guest
-Hi, I was reading through some of the past posts and these stories sound very very similiar to me. I have written before but these put it exactly! Has anyone been able to actually clear up the raw burning skin? I haven't been able to use anything on the skin because it seems to make it worse. I am on 600mg Lyrica, 100mg Tramadol and an antidepressant. I am scheduled for a nerve block on June 6th. I am going to the doctors and doing exactly what they say, but I still have this awful red, raw, burning skin. I can't even get out of the house to walk at all. I have tried to do this, but I end up in so much pain while out that I just can't. On the other hand I have two daughters, one who is going to the Junior Pronm next week, who would like to have her mother to help. I have a wonderful husband of twenty years who helps a lot, but sometimes they need their mother. I am missing out on so much I just want to cry all the time. This problem came up last November so everyone has had to adjust. I just feel like I may never get help and I don't know what to do next. I suppose this nerve block could help, but nothing has so far. So I have a difficult time believing it right now. I have written these rants before, but I have just had it with the pain lately. thanks for listening to this all. Guest guest
Hey Judy, I'd say Dee has mentioned this, but Estrace (or Estradiol cream) is so good for the vulvar skin, when it is RAW and burning and red, and feels like crap!!! It has helped my skin so much...Also, what kind of a nerve block are you having? I had two rounds of bilateral Pudendal Nerve blocks (through the butt cheek) -- I've had a caudal epidural and two trigger point injections in my sacral area, and the last shot I had was an injection directly into my most painful area of the vestibule. Hang in there... ~Chelle
Guest guest
Estrace helped a lot. It was murder at first but I used it a few times a week and stuck in there. Now I'm much better. Lindsey
Guest guest
Hi Chelle, I believe I am having the caudal nerve block. As I'm writing this I am thinking wow I'm not even sure of the name of the block I am having! This is how in charge of my care I am! I know the doctor said this was through my low back. He also said if it didn't work there were two more sites he would try. I am assuming those are the pudendal nerve blocks. I have been blindly going in just asking for help. I know I need to be more informed and in charge now.-Did the Caudal nerve block help you any? Or the other two? My general doctor did put me on prednisone Thursday and that seems to be helping with inflammation some already. She also finally prescribed hydrocodone for pain. Just being out of pain for awhile seems to be helping me think more clearly now. That has been a relief. It sure has helped my emotional state just not being in pain for awhile. I am going to call my doctor on Tues. to ask her for the estridiol. I want to get started on that as soon as possible. It seems through all the posts I have read E in addition to T seem to be mentioned over and over with excellent results for most people. So I want to start next week. I am feeling alittle more positive after Dee's email and some of the others that have found relief. Thank you, Judy -- In VulvarDisorders , Chelle wrote: > > Hey Judy, > > I'd say Dee has mentioned this, but Estrace (or Estradiol cream) is so good for the vulvar skin, when it is RAW and burning and red, and feels like crap!!! Guest guest
Hi Judy, the blocks (PN and Caudal) reduced the overall inflammation, but did not help with my worst symptom right now, which is pain with sitting. Don't let that affect you though...we are all so different and can have so many different things going on, we just don't know what will work until we try.The Estrogen cream has helped my vulvar skin the most...I think it's at least worth a try, but since you seem to be so sensitive, it might be best for you to have Estradiol compounded in a soothing base to remove the inert ingredients that 'might' bother your skin. Hang in there, Judy. ~Chelle

I can relate to that symptom. I recently drove - by myself - 1000 miles to and from Chicago. I had my special pillow and my lidocaine and other elevation devices but I couldnt keep up with it and I ended up miserable. I have conquered so much with my Vulvodynia and really felt I could manage. It is discouraging and even now, a week after my return, I am sitting as little as possible.
