Guest guest
I have been thinking for a long time about this, and although I don't disagree with the rise in all neurodevelopmental delays/disorders, I DO believe that parents are either insisting their doctors provide a "diagnosis" so they can get services or, the doctors do it anyway knowing the child needs a diagnosis to get help. Since SPD is not a diagnosis at this time, what better then to diagnose with autism since they can and often do look identical. All children with Autism have SPD but not all children with SPD have Autism. This is what could be making the numbers very skewed and seeming to rise as far as the Autism diagnosis.
