HI all....

If you want to know how various drugs might affect you.... this is from the horses mouth, the patients themselves and how they rated it or how it affected them. Most drugs are listed there and you can leave your own testimony.

http://www.askapatient.com/

For instance Neurontin had 394 ratings, ranked from best (5) to worst (1) .

That was really scary reading – if I read that before taking

Neurontin, I don’t think I would have started taking it. So many of these type

of sites only give the bad news, the people who have had good results, have no

reason to complain so they don’t post their comments.

<So many of these type of sites only give the bad news, the people who have had good results, have no reason to complain so they don’t post their comments.>

I don't know if I quite agree with that about them mainly being negative, because I've used that site for years for a lot of various meds to see what others might think of it, and if it's something I use and have good luck with it, I'll put in positive comments (and negative, LOL) but many that I looked up seemed to be half and half (good vs. bad results) and if you click the ratings they come up in sequence from best to worst and you can see an average. But you might be right too because if someone is happy with something they may never go back to it either.

I tried Wellbutrin once to help quit smoking, not for depression, but because it's the same identical thing as Zyban is to quit smoking, (and Wellbutrin is covered by insurance)... So I checked it out and the majority seemed to have good or ok results with it... so I gave it a try... I'll tell you it was the worst I ever felt in my life.

Talk about throwing me into a depression and crying jag almost instantly.. it was terrible and all I wanted to do was sleep, not go out, or even get dressed but the crying over absolutely nothing was the worst. I only stayed on it a week to10 days (and it never even 'slowed down' the smoking)... and worse was it took about 3 months to get out of my system.

It was horrible, I can really relate to someone who is severely depressed and how it felt and there's nothing you can do to control that. I would be sobbing at a Lassie movie or a old boyfriend from when I was 16 *chuckle* it was just so weird when I've always been pretty happy go lucky, but WOW...knocked me on my arse I can tell you.

So in the end none of us really know how anything will affect us till we try it ourselves but I still think it's a good indicator if all of a sudden you find yourself with symptoms to see if they're similiar to others on it and you'll know it's likely the drug doing it.

Hugs

Dee ;)

Yes, you are probably right Dee, I just read the first page and

they were all negative – never went any further to read the good

comments. And I am sure that there are many. It just seems that when people are

disgusted about a medication they tend to complain and when it works, they forget

to say anything. While I was there I did leave my comments on Neurontin, and I

think I will go back and add comments on all the other medications I take.

I agree Dee, I checked out that website and it was basically half and half. I can see where nne is coming from because I've been debating about asking my doc for Neurontin or not and it seemed like most people stated the side effects made them quit taking it. For the people who can tolerate it and it helps them thats great but I don't want to take the chance. Now, I've been looking into a website called www.mothernature.com for nerve pain/muscle and the herb Valerian popped up. Valerian, cramp bark sedate the nervous system and also stop tight muscles from going into spasm. Other helpful agents include the same compounds that color berries and grapes red and deep purple. These compounds also calm and sedate the nervous system. Has anyone tried going this route, if so did it work? I plan on going to my local health food store and purchasing it, instead of getting an Rx for Neurontin. Have a pain free weekend ladies and enjoy your Memorial Day.
