Guest guest
Hi all, thought you might enjoy this little bit on Ativan and can see why you say it worked well for you for pain Carolyn. I used it a few times when I had Bells Palsy and 1/2 to 1/4 of a pill was enough to zonk me out. *smile* I can't recall if it helped the bad ear pain I got with that or not, but it definitely relaxed me. ''Ativan is a benzodiazepine drug with short to medium duration of action.'' It has all five intrinsic benzodiazepine effects: 1. anxiolytic, (anxiety relief) 2. sedative (depresses the central nervous system) 3. hypnotic, (hypnotic drugs induce sleep) 4. anticonvulsant ( to suppress the rapid and excessive firing of neurons that start a seizure) 5. muscle relaxant, (used to alleviate symptoms such as muscle spasm and pain and hyperreflexia (overactive or overresponsive reflexes). Guest guest
I thought I read that Ativan reduced rapid and excessive firing of nerves by helping your Gaba receptors in your spinal chord work better. Am I imagining that? I am interested in trying it because I think the rapid-excessive nerve firing is part of my pain cycle. I also think that my pain is associated with Gaba because Gabapentin/Neurontin has helped me more than anything else. I am interested in all research involving Ativan for VV and also anyone's personal experiences. > > > Hi all, thought you might enjoy this little bit on Ativan and can see why you say it worked well for you for pain Carolyn. > > ''Ativan is a benzodiazepine drug with short to medium duration of action.'' > > It has all five intrinsic benzodiazepine effects: > > 1. anxiolytic, (anxiety relief) > 2. sedative (depresses the central nervous system) > 3. hypnotic, (hypnotic drugs induce sleep) > 4. anticonvulsant ( to suppress the rapid and excessive firing of neurons that start a seizure) > 5. muscle relaxant, (used to alleviate symptoms such as muscle spasm and pain and hyperreflexia (overactive or overresponsive reflexes). > > Dee >
