Guest guest
Sadly, I had the latest set back correct, except for two things. 1. They say the clot will not dissolve, it's there and not going anywhere. 2. He'll need another liver sooner rather than later. When, is anyone's guess. Dr McKenna was taken by surprise as much as we were. The fact that Ken isn't suffering any symptoms from the clot was also a surprise. They 'think' the hepatic vein is carrying the full load for now. How long that will last is also anyones guess. Dr McKenna said - 'This is a rare event, and given Ken's whole presentation, it is very odd indeed and I was quite surprised when I heard about it. Especially the paucity of symptoms he has, given the significance of this. While it is technically possible for him to develop collateral flow (alternate 'detour' pathways) in the portal vein, the blood thinners are mainly to keep this from progressing further down into the intestines. They came in this morning and showed Ken how to give himself the 2 shots of Lovenox a day. Both have to be given in his stomach. Ken did it right the first time with no trouble. He's had so many shots, it's like breathing, he doesn't even think about it. They are releasing him back to Twice Blessed today.
