Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear it. Although not life threatening, it's a huge problem to lose your eyesight!! Well, I've been diagnosed with PSC again! This time, however it's not liver disease it's a posterior subcapsular cataract, most likely caused by the prednisone I was on after the transplant (although I was only on it for a couple of months). I talked to the nurse at Vandy and she said that they recommended I wait until a year post transplant for the eye surgery, so hopefully it doesn't get any worse in the interim.athan Messenger Café — open for fun 24/7. Guest guest
Whoa athan, Sorry to hear this news..Iam also on and off Prednisone. I have a slightly higher ocular pressure because of it..which I know could lead to glaucoma or cataracts..hopefully I will be off of it soon and on to Remicade or Humira for my Crohns. My mothers color acuity improved after her cataract surgery. It turned out very well. I know your going to be fine!. Guest guest
The diagnosis didn't really surprise me all that much since my Grandmother, my father, my brother, and my sister all have had cataracts removed at a rather young age. My son and my niece were also born with cataracts which will probably have to be removed at some point. As you can probably tell, it runs in the family, and I already had cataracts before the prednisone, but they were small. These are new ones, and are more significant, but still, not exactly a surprise! I still can see pretty well, my left eye is hardly affected (I can't tell there's a problem), and in good light I hardly notice the problem with the right eye, so I don't think that waiting 'till a year post tx will be a major problem. The surgeon even said that since I'm now off prednisone it's possible (although unlikely) that they may improve somewhat. I just thought it was rather ironic that I would be diagnosed with another condition, also called PSC! athan
Guest guest
athan-Don't scare a person like that! Sheesh! Anyway, sorry about the cataracts. has them as well from the years of Prednisone due to UC. He is still on 20mg and Vandy wants to wait until his numbers come down to start the taper again. My dad just had his second eye surgery to remove his cataracts yesterday as a matter of fact. He is doing good. wife of UC & PSC 2000 J pouch 2004 Tx 11-18-
Guest guest
athan, You just scared some of us. I thought you were diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis again after your transplant. I hope there aren't any other conditions called PSC left to get diagnosed with.
